Job Description

Job Overview

This position will serve as the company expert for all grade control systems utilized in equipment sold, rented and serviced within the region and will serve as the first point of contact for customers with machine grade control, software, and survey technology opportunities. The candidate will also provide product support and training during demonstrations as well as after sale support and training. Additional responsibilities include managing the machine control product inventories, sales reporting, and machine control related rentals.

Key Job Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities to fulfilling the job purpose.

Develop and maintain complete working knowledge of Komatsu Intelligent Machine Control (IMC) Products, Wirtgen Group Technology solutions, and Topcon Grading Systems.

  • Remain on cutting edge of new product development in GPS products for the earthmoving industry including site preparation, business and site management, office management, fleet tracking and data management software(s). Remain current with competitors’ technologies to aid in selling our features and design. Be fluent in cost savings of this technology.
  • Understand customer’s overall equipment and maintenance needs and identify new areas of business opportunity for Roland Machinery Company by teaming with customer, vendors, and sales staff in cradle to grave project cycle.
  • Create and develop the market to generate and grow technology sales in the assigned region, including providing sales support for all machine Grade Control products, Survey, and Software technology solutions (Komatsu Smart Construction Solutions), qualifying leads, presenting options, and helping close the sale through field and office visits.
  • Market and sell technology products & solutions, demonstrating product features and providing detailed information on GPS, laser reference and robotic systems functions and performance.
  • Achieve customer sales and rental growth & company profitability targets.
  • Represent manufacturer by piloting new technologies or programs where it makes sense to grow, evolve, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Conduct product training for customers both in the classroom and in the field; developing training materials and tracking any subsequent training.
  • Meet training revenue goals and objectives as identified.
  • Expand the sales of Topcon survey solutions including rover and base station equipment to customers within the construction industry.
  • Work with target industry associations to grow solution awareness, contact leads, etc.
  • Meet training revenue goals and objectives as identified.
  • Effectively quarterback scenarios with sales and product support team members and delegating to assist customer uptime, training, install, support, repair, etc.
  • Maintain the grade systems physical inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education, experience, knowledge/skills/abilities, travel, and physical requirements for the job.

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or Associate Degree in surveying technology or a minimum of 5 years experience in the field of construction surveying/GPS technology

  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction equipment, GPS machine control technology, Land/Construction surveying with the ability to train others and troubleshoot both the equipment and associated software and hardware.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to discuss new technologies with customers from the management to operator levels.
  • Strong PC Skills, including intermediate to advanced Excel, survey data 3D design models.
  • Open & positive attitude as it relates to change and evolution Strong verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills and listening skills, including ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situation to customers, employees, and vendors.
  • A team player possessing the ability to professionally work with customers, vendors, peers, and co-workers as well as the ability to develop strong, long-term relationships.
  • Ability to work independently without daily direct supervision and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Travel outside assigned region: 25% (10-15 days) per quarter may be required.
  • Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (life, carry, move) light to medium weights. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. Regularly exposure to moving mechanical parts. Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. Occasional exposure to extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
