Salary: $20.00-21.00 Hourly DOE

Position: Water Reclamation Technician


Department: Water Reclamation Treatment Plant


Reports To: Water Reclamation Treatment Plant Manager


Job Type: Full Time


Regular Work Hours and Location: Typically, Monday – Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm. Work hours may vary from time to time.


Starting Pay: $20.00-21.00  per hour DOE


About: Mustang Special Utility District is a local governmental entity providing water and water reclamation utility service in Denton, Collin, and Grayson Counties of North Texas. We are the largest district of this type in Texas and in one of the fastest-growing areas of the country. comprising 34,000 connections over 200 sq. miles. Our motto is Second to None!, Providing Life’s Most Precious Resource. We’re looking for a key person to join our team as Water Reclamation Plant Maintenance Technician.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Maintains various wastewater treatment plant related equipment and facilitates mechanical repairs necessary to keep equipment operating in an efficient manner.
  2. Coordinates with wastewater operations Supervisor and personnel to assure critical equipment is operational.
  3. May be asked to assist operations with various tasks during emergency repairs or routine maintenance.
  4. Performs all routine preventative maintenance tasks as specified in the OEM manuals.
  5. Performs routine repair and preventative maintenance tasks on other equipment as directed or assigned.
  6. Observes safe work practices through proper use of safety equipment and procedures as required by Mustang SUD.
  7. Needs to be able to be on call for after-hour emergency repairs and inclement weather.
  8. Must have the ability to comprehend, carry out and administer written and oral instruction. 
       

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  1. Must be able to read and understand technical manuals and drawings.
  2. Must be proficient in the use of tools.
  3. Must have the ability to read operations and maintenance manuals, schematics, blueprints and safety data sheets.  
  4. Must possess considerable knowledge of mechanical and maintenance procedures.

 

Education and Experience:

 

  1. Minimum one year’s experience in the maintenance of mechanical equipment similar to that used in the water/wastewater treatment industry.
  2. Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
  3. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.

 

Work Environment: 

  • Outdoor Work: Much of the work is performed outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. This can include exposure to rain, extreme temperatures, and other environmental factors. 
  •  Confined Spaces: Wastewater operations/mechanic often have to enter and work in confined spaces. This can be physically demanding and may require specialized training and safety equipment. 
  •  Heavy Equipment: They operate and maintain a range of heavy equipment, including pumps, generators, and vehicles used for transporting equipment and personnel to job sites. 
  •  Odor and Hazardous Materials: The work environment can be unpleasant due to the presence of strong odors and exposure to potentially hazardous materials. Proper safety precautions are crucial. 
  •  Teamwork: Collaboration with other operators and maintenance personnel is common, as they work together to ensure the proper functioning of the wastewater treatment plant. 
  •  Safety Protocols: Strict safety protocols are followed to minimize the risk of accidents and exposure to harmful substances. Operators often wear protective gear and receive training in safety procedures.

  •  Physical Demands: The job can be physically demanding, involving lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and performing routine maintenance tasks. 

  

Conditions Of Employment: 

  • Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License before employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license within 30 days of hire.
  • Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check.
