Job Description
Our Company: InterAgency Inc. is a minority-owned DC-based small business specializing in permit management services for some of the DC Metro region’s largest developers, builders, and property managers. We provide a full array of permitting support for all project scales and all project phases.

Description: InterAgency is seeking a Senior Permitting Manager to join our growing construction permitting practice. The successful candidate will work on construction and transportation right-of-way permitting for a variety of large and midsize building and infrastructure construction and renovation projects, as well as manage a team of junior permitting coordinators working independently on a variety of projects. These permits will be filed in any of the jurisdictions in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. The candidate will be responsible for interfacing between Clients, Client’s contractors and consultants, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to proactively address permitting needs and resolve permitting-related issues. Candidate must be self-motivated, organized, and be able to communicate information clearly and in a timely manner between multiple project stakeholders.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
  • Education and Experience: 4-year bachelor’s degree in A/E/C or other design or construction related field, plus 5-years’ experience in design or construction related field
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and team members under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in A/E/C or other design or construction related field
  • 10-years’ experience in design or construction related field
  • Prior experience in a construction-related field, with handling permits.

Responsibilities:
Project types will likely include but are not limited to new build construction for high density multifamily and commercial office buildings, tenant fit-outs, building alterations, repairs, and additions, building demolition, exterior improvements in public right-of-way, elevator certificates, and occupancy certificates. Projects may encompass complex approvals processes with inter-agency coordination, multiple phases, and code interpretations or variances.
Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervising a team of junior permitting coordinators, who may be working on separate projects, each with its own unique set of deliverables and project timeline.
  • Gathering permit submission documents from clients, performing QC on the permit submission documents, and submitting permit applications via online portals for client projects to regulatory agencies in the DC Metro region.
  • Calling regulatory officials to verify permitting processes, follow up on status of permit applications, resolve issues related to permits, and facilitate communications between client’s team and regulators as needed.
  • Perform research on new permitting processes as needed.
  • Scheduling meetings with regulatory officials as needed to address issues related to current and/or future permit submissions.
  • Attending regular meetings with client and documenting meeting notes
  • Leading internal meetings to review project status of junior permitting coordinators and report progress to senior leadership.
  • Developing materials as needed for client progress calls and/or meetings and responding to daily emails and calls from clients.
  • Developing and maintaining an electronic Permit Tracker for all permits submitted for projects, which tracks permit status, all review comments, and all responses from the client team.
  • Ensuring that Permit Tracker aligns with client’s project schedule.
  • Identifying potential risks that would cause impacts to the client’s project schedule and working with client and client’s contractors and consultants to develop solutions to eliminate or mitigate risk.
  • Accurate and detailed daily timekeeping required.
  • Timely communication with client during regular business hours (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodation.
  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Must be able to meet with permit regulators at their place of work when needed, providing their own transportation.

Employment Conditions:
  • Type: Full-time employment
  • Hybrid work arrangement: Three (3) days in the office, in Bethesda, MD. Two (2) days of remote work per week.
  • Hours: regular business hours, 8:00 am to 5:00 PM (EST).

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Annual salary commensurate with experience.
    • Salary Range: $ 90,000 - $110,000 /year
