Job Description

Gotham Companies is currently seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our client’s progressive Charter School System located in the vibrant city of New York, on a temporary basis with eligibility for a permanent position. In this role, you will support and educate students with varying disabilities, ensuring their educational needs are met in a compassionate and inclusive manner. As a Special Education Teacher, you will collaborate with a team of skilled professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), modifying curriculum and instructional strategies as needed.

Special Education: Early Childhood B-2
Early Childhood Education B-2
General Special Education (w/Supplemental License)

Responsibilities:

Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and fosters their social and emotional development.
Develop and maintain rapport with students and their families, providing regular updates on progress and actively seeking their input in the educational process.
Identify areas of academic need and design appropriate teaching strategies to address individual student goals.
Utilize a wide range of instructional methods and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities within the special education setting.
Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers to ensure a cohesive educational experience for students.
Complete required paperwork, maintain accurate records, and participate in IEP meetings and other team-based discussions.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Valid teaching certification in Special Education from the state of New York. (REQUIRED)
PETS clearance (REQUIRED)
Proven experience working with students with special needs and implementing IEPs.
Strong knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching methods to meet the individual needs of students.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
