Wastewater Operator I: $24.18 - $35.05 per hour
Wastewater Operator II: $26.59 - $38.56 per hour
Wastewater Operator III: $29.25 - $42.42 per hour

Wastewater Operator I

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs operation and maintenance duties at assigned wastewater treatment plants. Ensures the plants and collection system facilities operate safely and are effectively meeting permit requirements. Remains on call for wastewater treatment and collection system facilities emergencies.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Performs operator duties as well as general maintenance activities at the wastewater treatment plant which includes such duties as performing daily analytical tests, collecting samples and performing analyses, monitoring and adjusting chemical feeders, performing process control tests, maintaining, calibrating and testing flow meters, keeping accurate records of results, performing minor maintenance and repair activities, general housekeeping, and conducting security checks of facilities and grounds.
  2. Performs other related duties to include treatment and disposal systems, recording data and keeping accurate records, performing minor maintenance and repairs and reporting problems to supervisor.
  3. Implements routine inspections such as listening for unusual noises or vibrations, checking treatment processes and efficiency.
  4. Receives, records, and responds to customer complaints and concerns in an appropriate manner. Transmits, receives, and relays messages.
  5. Receives, reviews, prepares and processes various reports and records on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis to include PM sheets, daily operations logs, daily calibration records, DMR reports, flow reports, chemical logs, etc.
  6. Performs other duties as required within the scope of responsibility.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years-related experiences as a wastewater treatment operator.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess S.C. Class “C” Biological Wastewater Certification. Must obtain a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement within six months of hire date. Must possess the ability to obtain certifications in confined space entry, bloodborne pathogens, work zone safety, HAZMAT safety, first aid/CPR, forklift certification.

Wastewater Operator II:

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs operation and maintenance duties at assigned wastewater treatment plants. Ensures the plants and collection system facilities operate safely and are effectively meeting permit requirements. Remains on call for wastewater treatment and collection system facilities emergencies.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Performs operator duties as well as general maintenance activities at the wastewater treatment plant which includes such duties as performing daily analytical tests, collecting samples and performing analyses, monitoring and adjusting chemical feeders, performing process control tests, maintaining, calibrating and testing flow meters, keeping accurate records of results, performing minor maintenance and repair activities, general housekeeping, and conducting security checks of facilities and grounds.
  2. Performs other related duties to include recording data and keeping accurate records, cleaning the clarifier, lubricating all equipment, checking the chemical feed systems, cleaning screens, moving or relocating equipment from site to site, housekeeping, etc.
  3. Implements routine inspections such as listening for unusual noises or vibrations, checking possible mechanical/electrical failures, treatment processes and efficiency.
  4. Receives, reviews, prepares and processes various reports and records on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis to include PM sheets, daily operations logs, daily calibration logs, pumpage reports, chemical logs, temperature logs, discharge monitoring reports, invoices, etc.
  5. Changes flow charts at all pump stations. Receives and transports sludge and septage to be treated. Processes and documents related information as necessary.
  6. Receives, records, and responds to customer complaints and concerns in an appropriate manner. Transmits, receives, and relays messages.
  7. Monitors inventory of all supplies, chemicals, etc., and submits requisitions as needed.
  8. Performs other duties as required within the scope of responsibility.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess S.C. Class “B” Biological Wastewater certification. Must possess a valid driver’s license and obtain a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement within six (6) months of hire date. Must possess the ability to obtain certifications in confined space entry, bloodborne pathogens, work zone safety, HAZMAT safety, first aid/CPR, forklift certification.

Wastewater Operator III:

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, supervises and performs operation and maintenance duties at assigned wastewater treatment plant. Completes required paperwork, logs, reports, files, and charts. Ensures the plant operates safely and effectively meeting permit requirements. Remains on call for wastewater treatment and collection emergencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Supervises and performs operator duties as well as general maintenance activities at the wastewater treatment plant which includes such duties as performing daily analytical tests, collecting samples and performing analyses, monitoring and adjusting chemical feeders, performing process control tests, maintaining, calibrating and testing flow meters, keeping accurate records of results, performing minor maintenance and repair activities, general housekeeping, and conducting security checks of facilities and grounds.
  2. Performs other related duties to include recording data and keeping accurate records, cleaning the clarifier, lubricating all equipment, checking the chlorine system, cleaning bar screens, moving or relocating equipment from site to site, etc.
  3. Is responsible for implementing routine precautionary guidelines such as listening for unusual noises or sounds, checking for debris that may have entered the plant, etc.
  4. Receives, reviews, prepares and processes various reports and records on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis to include PM sheets, daily operations logs, daily calibration logs, flow reports, chemical use logs, temperature logs, discharge monitoring reports, invoices, etc. Processes and documents related information as necessary.
  5. Receives, records, and responds to customer complaints and concerns in an appropriate manner. Transmits, receives, and relays messages.
  6. Monitors inventory and requisitions needed equipment, chemicals, and supplies. Provides recommendations for purchases related to operations and maintenance of wastewater equipment and instrumentation.
  7. Performs other duties as required within the scope of responsibility.
