Job Description

Job Summary: Under general direction with a high level of autonomy, uses extensive knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience to oversee all organizational operations and programs, and manage the development functions for the organization. Working in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer, the COO is responsible for creating, implementing and monitoring the successful attainment of the strategic direction of the organization, overseeing all program areas, and driving the culture of the organization. Provides comprehensive solutions to complex problems or needs and participates in the identification and acquisition of funding opportunities. End results are evaluated for achieving goals and objectives. Extensive contact with board members, funding sources, and internal and external client relationships is required to meet goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management to ensure resources are effectively coordinated to produce quality programs and efficiently manage all areas of the organization.
  • Manages program budgets and budgeting processes so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives. Ensures operating budgets meet or exceed targets.
  • Leads the creation and evaluation of programs supporting the strategic plan.
  • Develops and directs high quality strategies and programs which support organizational goals and strategies.
  • Establishes plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall organizational objectives and the leadership team.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, development and management of program team members.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation to develop participant-focused programs that support the organizations mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Supports the Chief Executive Officer by managing projects that directly impact capital expenditures and/or facility development.
  • Budget development and monitoring to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability within operations.
  • Explore and implement revenue-generating opportunities to support program growth and financial stability.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Act as a representative of LAHC, attending LAHC events and community events to promote the organization's values and impact.
  • Support the recruitment, training, and development of staff, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback to promote staff growth and excellence.
  • Enhance team members, community partners, donors and stakeholders’ experiences through effective communication, innovative programming, and superior customer service initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase program reach, retention and overall satisfaction.
  • Participate in fundraising activities and work closely with grant writers and program directors to ensure timely submission of grant applications.
  • Work closely with the CEO in identifying and mitigating potential risks related to facility, programs, and operations.
  • Assume day to day management responsibilities, ensuring smooth operations during daily operations.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the CEO to ensure the smooth functioning and success of the organization.
  • Coaches and mentors’ direct reports.
  • Reviews progress of assignments with senior management.
  • Balances conflicting resource and priority demands.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Management and development of organizational strategies, goals and objectives.
  • Advanced concepts, principles and practices of non-profit management.
  • Advanced concepts, principles and practices of non-profit fund raising.
  • Advanced concepts, principles and practices of people and facility management.

Skill in:

  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications, including Microsoft Office.

Ability to:

  • Ability to direct total operations through management of staff, development and monitoring of budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proven track record of program development and implementation as well as project management and administration.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Ability to develop and monitor revenue and expense budgets.
  • Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives.
  • Facilitate meetings, ensuring that all viewpoints, ideas and problems are addressed.
  • Incorporate needs, wants and goals from different perspectives into effective programs.
  • Incite enthusiasm and influence, motivate and persuade others to achieve desired outcomes
  • Gather information, identify linkages and trends and apply findings to assignments.
  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Create and maintain effective relationships with local and regional organizations to obtain funding and support.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Master’s Degree
  • Required Disciplines:
    1. Human Services, Social Service, Non-Profit Management, Public administration or Business or a related field

  • A minimum of ten years of management in a Non-Profit environment, preferably in a social agency or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.

Working Conditions:

Hours: In person position. Normal business hours. Ability to adjust hours of work based on the community needs, including evenings and weekends.

Travel Required: Local travel only
