Raba Kistner is seeking an experienced Project Archaeologist, to join our Environmental team in San Antonio, TX. The duties of the Project Archaeologist will consist of project management, supervisory responsibilities, and fieldwork that includes, but is not limited to, construction monitoring, linear and aerial surveys, National Register of Historic Places eligibility testing, and data recovery investigations. Additionally, the Project Archaeologist will participate in laboratory processing and curation preparation activities associated with projects, conduct of artifact analysis, and produce technical reports associated with each project. Other duties will include:

  • Help strengthen existing client relationships and the development of new business opportunities with public and private sector clients.
  • Collaborate with the Cultural Resources Program Assistant Director to manage Cultural Resources Compliance (CRC) staff of the regional office and ensure their effectiveness
  • Manage and maintain CRC projects on budget and on schedule for clients of Raba Kistner, Inc. (RKI).
  • Collaborate with the Cultural Resources Program Director and Assistant Director to help grow the regional office.
  • Support the firm’s objectives of meeting the clients’ expectations in a timely manner.
  • Serve as the lead Project Archaeologist on cultural resource projects.
  • Work with the PI or CR Program Director/Assistant Director to ensure proper responses to existing contractual obligations for existing and new clients.
  • Participate in regional organization(s) to build the business reach of the RKI regional office.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals and budgets.
  • Assist in the preparation of archaeological scopes of work and permit applications.
  • Prepare or assist in preparing technical reports and other deliverables to all clients with whom RKI retains contractual obligations.
  • Conduct analysis of field data and artifacts recovered to aid the preparation of report data.
  • Manage the day-to-day CRC operations of the RKI regional office.
  • Complete projects within the parameters of the budgetary constraints.
  • Communicate professionally and in an effective manner with project staff, clients, resource agencies, sub-consultants concerning project goals and results.
  • Assist senior management to monitor technical and loss prevention practices to ensure the CRC Service Line is in substantial compliance with good accepted practices.
  • Provide technical training and mentoring to our professional and technical staff members.
  • Adhere to proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment, as needed, based on working conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or Historic Preservation, or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 3 years applicable experience.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the rules and regulations associated with the National Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet company’s auto insurability requirements.

Ability to work independently. Ability to read and understand instructions, labels, reports, etc. Ability to effectively communicate information both written and oral and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

Work environment may requires potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to varying weather conditions, hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require employee to follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment.

This position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs.
