Job Description

This position is responsible for supervising the day to day plasma center operations and staff to ensure efficient plasma collection. Responsible for donor medical evaluations, determining donor suitability, and assessing donor adverse events.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of the donor center in the absence of the Assistant Manager and/or Director of Center Operations
  • Conduct screening procedures to include taking blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, and arm checks
  • Perform finger sticks to test donors for hematocrit testing and total protein testing utilizing screening equipment. Monitor the electronic donor questionnaire system
  • Determine donor eligibility by performing donor eligibility assessments, to include; medical history interview, physical examination, educating donor on donor testing, HIV/AIDS virus, donation risks, informed consent, confidential self-exclusion, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) testing as necessary
  • Initiate and assist in donor investigations regarding Post Donation Information
  • Evaluate and attend to donor adverse events during the donation process
  • Follow all standard operating procedures for all medical emergencies, to include communication with the Center Medical Director and donor transport to emergency medical care facilities. Communicate and seek direction from Center Medical Director and Center Management as necessary
  • Document the training as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Assist with the annual re-certification process for non-trainers
  • Learn and maintain thorough familiarity and compliance with all state and federal regulations, Standard Operating Procedure Manual, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), and internal Company Procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable Company and departmental policies and procedures, as well as the willingness to learn and follow any policy or procedure that may be introduced in the future
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, and company-specific rules, regulations, and practices related to the quality and safety of products, donors, and employee
  • Manage and develop talent within the donor center. Participates in the selection of new staff for the donor center
  • Participate with management in conducting performance appraisals, and providing performance feedback. With management review, document verbal and written coaching level corrective actions as needed. Assist in maintaining up-to-date employee training files, and checklists, and assist with performance evaluations and certification status
  • Develop and implement active donor recruitment advertising campaigns to improve production levels
  • Participate with management in providing timely feedback on performance and initiate disciplinary action when necessary
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum one (1) year work experience preferred
  • Actively licensed or certified in the state where performing duties: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, or Paramedic, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Licensed Vocation Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret directions and instructions
  • Perform basic math calculations
  • Basic computer skills
  • Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
  • Frequent leaning, bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching above the shoulders and below the knee
  • Manual dexterity to perform all phases of donor plasmapheresis
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time for up to four (4) hours at a time
  • Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc.
  • Ability to lift, tug, pull up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Typical work environment with moderate notice level
  • May be exposed to freezing temperatures for short periods of time
  • Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens
