Job Summary:

Covenant Christian High School (Indianapolis) seeks a committed Christian educator to fill a full-time position to teach multi-level Spanish courses beginning in the fall of the 2024-25 school year. Applicants shall be prepared to teach Spanish according to Covenant's immersion-style curriculum. They shall also be passionate about the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures and demonstrate a clear desire to share that love with a diverse group of students in Spanish.

A bachelor's or master's degree in Spanish or Spanish Education is preferred. Must hold a valid Indiana teacher license and hold or be willing to pursue an Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) teaching certificate. The capacity to teach using both online and traditional methods is key. Global perspectives and rich target language acquisition developed through study abroad are essential.

Candidates shall be highly organized and capable of implementing program ideas in creative and effective ways. Candidates should be able to work closely with other staff, especially our faculty, Academic Dean, World Languages Department, and our Academic Advisors. The successful candidate will be able to engage, nurture, and help students acclimate to the rigors of high school. This includes working closely with parents, especially those who have a student in high school for the first time.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and state and school district curriculum guidelines.
  • Designs and delivers individual lesson plans in one or more academic, technical, or vocational subjects using a variety of teaching techniques and appealing to various learning styles.
  • Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance.
  • Discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise.
  • Monitors students' progress throughout the year and evaluates preparedness for graduation, vocational school, or college, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Academic Advisors, Academic Dean, Dean of Students, and the Spanish Department Head
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with district and state laws and policies.
  • Communicates progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or principal.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents.
  • Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
  • Monitors halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff.
  • Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars.
  • Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in secondary education.
  • Performs related tasks such as sponsoring student activities or organizations.


Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Thorough understanding of the pedagogy and best practices of education.
  • Desire to teach high school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental status.
  • The ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as the flipped classroom, lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Google Suite & Canvas.
  • Candidate should be passionate about the Spanish language, literature, and world cultures and clearly show a desire to share that love with a diverse group of teenage students.
  • Ideal applicants will be equipped to teach using both online and traditional methods and have global perspectives developed through study abroad.
  • A desire to travel with student groups during January term is also encouraged.


Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Spanish or Spanish Education; Master's degree highly preferred.
  • State licensure preferred
  • Must be willing to pursue an Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) teaching certification
  • Ongoing maintenance of all requirements regarding professional courses and in-services required.
  • Prior teaching experience highly preferred.
  • Specialized training in teaching secondary school-aged children is preferred.


Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
