Job Description

Disability Resources, Inc., is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that supports a community designed to enhance the lives of adults with intellectual disabilities. We are located in the great state of Texas and are currently seeking a relationship builder and difference maker as a Direct Support Professional. Disability Resources, Inc. provides industry-leading services to our residents such as; helping residents develop their life skills, providing required medical care, a variety of therapies, offering spiritual opportunities for growth, and encouraging healthy lifestyles.

We are growing and adding positions to our team! The job duties for the position of Direct Support Professional are listed below.

Job Summary: The Direct Support Professional (DSP) assumes the following job duties…

· Verifies, administers and record medications and medical treatments to assure they are properly administered and recorded (training provided)

· Prepares, cooks, and serves meals for 7 people in accordance with menu provided by dietician

· Ensures residents are observing proper personal hygiene (brushing teeth, hair, etc.) and are dressed with appropriate clothing

· Know each of the residents abilities, disabilities and interests

· Provide behavior intervention to ensure the residents are protected from harm or injury due to neglect, abuse, sexual incidents, or other behavioral conduct and properly record the incident and action taken

· Conduct Emergency Evacuation Drills

· Ability to make positive decisions and uses good judgement when dealing with critical incidents

· Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies

· Demonstrate proper body mechanics, good posture, and proper lifting techniques

· Ability to master basic techniques of individual care and training

· Knowledge of individual care techniques and of treatment, therapy, and developmental programs

· Exhibit leadership skills and knowledge in managing other direct support staff

· Supervise/Provide daily transportation to and from Activity Center

· Other activities are assigned by Director of Residential Services or House Manager

· Ensures active and efficient care, training, and support for individuals in home living environment

· Ensures practice of appropriate teaching techniques (as advised by the Residential Director, Activity Director, or House Manager) in all training and care activities, in living and training environments

· Ensures the home is maintained and is safe and sanitary living environment for individuals

· Ensure efficient operation of the home through direct supervision of assigned staff and maintenance of daily documentation requirements

· Strength and flexibility to safely perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

· Valid Driver’s License required as there may be times you drive your group to a doctor’s appointment or off campus activity

· Ensure residents are prepared to depart to Activity or Vocational Center by starting time

· When in the Activity Center you will be required to teach various assigned curriculum pertaining to basic life skills or various life enrichment activities.

· When in the Activity Center you will be responsible for a group of individuals that may or may not be the same as those within your specified home.

· When in the Activity Center you will utilize effective time management to ensure scheduled classes, breaks (restroom, water, and lunch), and Vocational times are attended accordingly

· Other duties as assigned

Education: Associates Degree preferred

Experience:

· Minimum 1 year experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities.

· CPR certification - required

· Proficient computer skills- required

· Attendance and punctuality - a must

· Valid driver’s license - required

Environmental and Working Conditions: You will work at multiple locations within the community campus. There may be times you attend off campus activities. You may be required to cover a specific shift and/or overtime as business needs see fit.

Physical and Mental Effort: Sitting, standing need to lift, pull, carry, and push items weighing up to fifty pounds. Frequent need to stoop, kneel, and reaching. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Ability to utilize practical common sense and critical thinking is required.

Schedule: Would vary based upon business need and could be similar to the following…

2 p.m. to 10 p.m. - 3 positions

10 p.m. to 6 a.m. - 3 positions
