JOB TITLE: Assistant Professor of Teacher Education, Two positions DEPARTMENT: College of Education SUPERVISOR: Dean of the College of Education

Concordia University Chicago (CUC) is seeking two full-time Assistant Professors of Teacher Education to serve in the College of Education in the Division of Teaching and Learning. The faculty within this vibrant Division are a supportive and collaborative team that shares in the work of preparing the next generation of teachers. The Division seeks flexible, driven, and committed team members who will join in this tradition of excellence in growing strong teacher preparation programs for the future. CUC offers a wide range of education majors including early childhood, elementary, middle grades, secondary, and PK-12 options at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The ideal candidates have a background in either secondary education or PK-12 education with content knowledge in the area of science or social science. The faculty members will be responsible to design and teach a host of pedagogy and content-specific courses within his or her area of expertise in the initial licensure programs. Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The official start date is Fall 2024.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Teaches courses under the Teacher Education discipline
  • Hires and assigns adjunct faculty as needed
  • Provides supervising instruction and assesses effectiveness
  • Designs and monitors curriculum and assessments for the program
  • Supervises teacher candidates during field experience and internships
  • Partners with the Division Chair, Assistant Chair, Dean, and other colleagues to complete program reports for the State and Accreditation bodies
  • Proves vision and leadership for curriculum supervision and development for the various content areas within the program
  • Advises and mentors undergraduate teacher candidates
  • Performs scholarship and service to the university, profession, and community
  • Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Skill Sets:

  • Strong administrative skills, including related computer and technology skills
  • Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills across institutional units with faculty, staff, and senior leaders
  • Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and Concordia University Chicago
  • A record of successful teaching, scholarship, and service at the program or university level
  • The ability to challenge, motivate and encourage students to high levels of academic and personal success

Minimum Experience Required:

Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in public or private school settings required

Education Requirements:

  • Current teaching license required
  • Master's degree in an education-related field required
  • Doctoral degree in education preferred
  • Undergraduate certification or colloquy completion as a professional church worker in the LCMS is preferred

Compensation and Benefits:
