ATHLETIC TRAINER - (part-time 75% Benefited Position)

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Athletic Trainer plans, coordinates and implements programs for the prevention, evaluation, therapeutic, rehabilitative, and emergency medical care of students engaged in the athletic program and develops preventative, therapeutic, rehabilitative and emergency medical care programs for student athletes. This position will support afternoon/early evening athletic events and may include some weekend events.

Evaluation and Treatment

  • Evaluates injuries and administers emergency first aid and CPR/AED to student athletes during practice, training sessions, and athletic games/contests.
  • Refers student athletes to physician, physician specialists, hospital emergency room, or health care specialists, as appropriate.
  • Measures and applies protective and therapeutic bandaging, wrapping, strapping, padding, braces, guards, and other protective devices to prevent injury to student athletes.
  • Administers and utilizes modalities such as electrotherapy, cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, massage, therapeutic/rehabilitative exercise and equipment, therapeutic heat, ultrasound, and traction under the direction of a physician.
  • Advises and counsels athletes and coaching staff on matters related to injury prevention and care, conditioning, rehabilitation, training, diet, rest, alcohol/substance abuse, and related matters.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with health care professionals providing care to student athletes.
  • Advises coaching staff on the severity of injuries incurred by student athletes and on their ability to resume training and re-enter practice and competition.
  • Keep a clean and organized training room
  • Ability to work with coaches, faculty, student athletes, staff, and individuals from a variety of ethnic, social, and economic backgrounds.

Reporting

  • Prepares injury reports to coaches and physicians and maintains injury, medical, and rehabilitation records for student athletes.
  • Establishes, administers, organizes, and maintains physical examination, injury, and treatment records and reports.

Game Coverage

  • Collaborates and communicates with the Athletic Director, Athletic Trainer, administrators, coaches and game management personnel on athletic trainer schedule and sports event coverage, including changes in schedules, championship competition and playoffs.
  • Advises the Athletic Director, and coaching staff on the safety and sanitary condition of locker room, practice, and competition facilities and sites.
  • Travels with athletic teams to provide routine medical care of injured student athletes.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Must be available to work home games, away games, and occasional playoff travel
    • Approximately two Saturdays per month and on occasion overnight travel will be required.

 Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Sports Medicine or similar field)
  • CPR, AED and First Aid Certification
  • Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC) as certified by the BOC
  • Minimum one year experience as an Athletic Trainer

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and in a team setting
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and ability to learn other software systems
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast paced environment
  • Positive, flexible, resourceful and solution-oriented
  • Able to understand and relate to student athletes
  • Required to use the computer throughout the day
  • Work will be performed throughout the campus and travel to offsite locations is required
    • Must be able to and willing to drive school vehicles 
    • May occasionally have to lift up to 50-pounds

  • Castilleja uses a competitive salary scale which takes into account  the range of experience, education and skill level. The yearly salary for this 75% position ranges from $59,025 to $70,750.
