Kett Engineering is seeking experienced Diesel Mechanics to work either 1st or 2nd Shift working on a range of prototype commercial vehicles in Elmendorf, TX. This is a full-time position with benefits offered after 60 days of employment.

Pay Range: $30-$34/hr (depending on experience on resume)

1st Shift: 6:30am-3:00pm

2nd Shift: 2:30pm-11:00pm

Job Duties:

  • Incumbent will work hands-on constructing or modifying prototype vehicles. Perform repairs, modifications, and diagnostics on Medium duty trucks, Buses, and Heavy duty trucks. Powertrains may include Diesel; electric vehicles and alternative fuels.
  • Scope may include assemble, disassemble, inspect, repair and install components on vehicles - including engines and powertrain. Either modify existing vehicles, or build units from ground up.
  • Repair and/or replace all components of diesel engines, hydraulic, air conditioning, electrical, and suspension systems, drivetrains, steering, braking, material handling, and operator comfort systems.
  • Work will require following prints, sketches, or written or verbal assembly instructions. Leverage mechanical skills and training to complete assigned tasks.
  • Activities may include drilling, cutting, machining and grinding working from prints, sketches, written or verbal instructions.
  • Welding fabrication with Tig, Mig, Stick, Oxy-Acetylene.
  • Welding skills & plasma cutting.
  • Start and maintain necessary documentation, records, and information.
  • Provide detailed feedback as appropriate during prototype activities.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret technical information from schematics, technical manuals, drawings and procedures, and governmental regulations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience supporting engineering activities and/or automotive or diesel mechanic experience.
  • OR at least 3 years of experience working with Class 4-8 Truck Experience.

Desired Skills:

  • Previous mechanic experience involving truck and engine assembly, repair, and fabrication. Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Vehicle experience that includes some of the following: commercial vehicles, off-highway vehicles, agriculture vehicles, and/or passenger vehicles.
  • Experience with alternative fuels, including EV (electric vehicles), and/or Propane.
  • Experience with Cummins/Allison/Eaton/Duramax.
  • Training/Education as a Truck mechanic, as a Diesel Engine mechanic.
  • Experience with welding fabrication with Tig, Mig, Stick, Oxy-Acetylene Welding skills & plasma cutting.
  • Electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics; knowledge of multimeter and/or module programming.
  • Prior dealership or fleet service experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office – Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint
