Associate Athletic Director 2024-25

Porter-Gaud is an Episcopal, coeducational day school serving more than 1,000 students in grades 1-12. The O'Quinn Schools of Porter-Gaud serve an additional 600 preschool students from age two through kindergarten. Porter-Gaud School is seeking an Associate Athletic Director to join the Athletics Department for a July 1, 2024 start date.

The Associate Athletic Director will be responsible for supporting all areas of responsibility requested within the Athletic Department as well fostering the culture, mission, vision, and administration of the Porter-Gaud Athletic Program at the direction of the Athletic Director.


Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Assists with the creation of all athletic policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with Athletic Director and other administrators in resolving student-athlete parent, or coach issues in order to maintain a positive image of Porter-Gaud Athletics.
  • Oversee Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and related initiatives including seasonal parents meetings and the Guide to a College Bound Student Athlete.
  • Provide counsel to coaches on issues such as player discipline, parent communications and other support.
  • Promote a culture of compliance and academic integrity.
  • Enforce SCISA coaching compliance.
  • Organize and coordinate media days and pictures for PGPA team programs and PGPA liaison.
  • Assist Athletic Director with managing athletic department staff and recruitment, retention, and evaluation of all personnel.
  • Supervise and evaluate all coaches within the Porter-Gaud Athletic Department
  • Serves as game day administrator during afternoon/evening/weekend contests.
  • Attends all contests as assigned by the Athletic Director to help insure a quality program.
  • Assists the Athletic Director in student-athlete retention and admission initiatives.
  • Coaches at either the Middle School or Upper School Level
  • Engages in all aspects of school life at Porter-Gaud. Serves on additional school committees as needed by the school.
  • Provides open communication with the administration, Athletic Department, coaches, Physical Education teachers, students and parents regarding the Athletic Department.
  • Serves as the Athletic Director when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in athletic administration or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience teaching and/or coaching middle and high school aged children; experience in an independent school setting preferred.
  • Previous experience with the operation of an Athletic program preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and work independently, multitask, and prioritize efficiently and effectively, and respond to various requests simultaneously. A keen attention to detail with the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work in an environment where flexibility is crucial.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize workload.
  • High attention to detail and ability to anticipate needs and offer proactive support.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with core constituents.
  • Superior customer service skills and a collaborative, friendly demeanor.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.

Reporting: The Associate Athletic Director will report directly to the Athletic Director.
