The Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota (AERC-MN) is looking for a full-time Veterinary Triage Technician to add to our team.

Role Title: Veterinary Technician - Triage

Department: Urgent Care

Shift: Evening

  • Evening (2pm-12am) - Urgent Care

Schedule: Variable - both rotating and fixed schedule options may be available. Weekends Required, no more than 50% per month. Holidays are required, no more than four per year.

Compensation: Hourly, dependent on skills, education, credentials, and other factors.

The primary function of the Triage Technician is to serve as a patient advocate through triage, communication, and education of the client, as well as be an extension of the Treatment Technician and DVM regarding client interaction. Additionally, the Triage Technician is expected to promote professional growth through education and learning opportunities.

    • This role will provide delicate and continuity of care for all patients and clients by utilizing skills such as active listening, leading with curiosity to assume best intentions, and supporting all client's medical care decisions without judgement.
    • You will be trained to answer phone calls, communicate effectively and clearly with clients, and educate clients regarding medical procedures, diagnostics and medications in addition to your typical technical skills and abilities.
  • Patient Care
    • Skills can be taught. We value training and professional development. You will be provided with a minimum of 16 training shifts before you're set free to save lives. These training shifts will be both on the floor, and classroom based, working closely with individuals from our professional development training team. When you succeed, we all succeed.
    • You will be comfortable with the basic tasks such as animal restraint, reading body language of both canine and feline species, assist with performance of vitals (temperature, pule, respirations, blood pressure) and quickly identify normal vs. abnormal ranges.
    • You will ensure patients are clean, dry, and presentable at time of discharge from the hospital, as well as provide general husbandry care such as bathroom breaks, cleaning kennels, performing baths, and providing fresh water.
    • This is a mid-level position, designed for those who are recent graduates from a veterinary technician program or similar educational field. Previous veterinary or animal research clinical experiences to be considered for this role.
