Position Overview

The Extended Care Teacher will be responsible for supervising and engaging with students before/after regular school hours, providing a safe and nurturing environment for them to unwind and participate in enriching activities. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children, excellent communication skills, and the ability to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

Responsibilities:

1. Supervise students in the before-care/aftercare program, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
2. Plan and implement age-appropriate activities to engage students and promote their social, emotional, and cognitive development.
3. Assist students with homework assignments and provide academic support as needed.
4. Foster a positive and inclusive environment where all students feel valued and respected.
5. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding students' progress and any concerns or issues that may arise.
6. Collaborate with school staff to coordinate activities and ensure a seamless transition between the school day and before-care/aftercare program.
7. Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure compliance with program policies and procedures.
8. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay current with best practices in aftercare programming.
9. Perform other duties as assigned by the aftercare coordinator or school administration.

Requirements

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma
2. Previous experience working with children in a school or childcare setting.
3. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
4. Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate learning activities.
5. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
7. Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students and accommodate changing schedules or circumstances.
8. CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
9. Ability to pass a background check.

Compensation

The compensation for this role is $20/hour. Up to 20 hours per week.
