The City of Vacaville is accepting applications for the position of Wastewater Plant Operator II/III in the Utilities Department. Currently, the department has one (1) vacancy, and this recruitment will also serve to establish an eligibility list for additional Wastewater Plant Operator II/III vacancies that may occur during the life of the eligibility list, which is typically 12 months.
The Wastewater Plant Operator (WWPO) II/III classification is flexibly staffed and may be filled at either the II or III level, depending on the qualifications of the candidates and the needs of the department.
Salary and Benefits Information
WWPO II - $85,261 - $103,635/annually
WWPO III - $93,766 - $113,973/annually

ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate for this position will:
- Have the ability to safely operate, repair and maintain wastewater facilities
- Have knowledge of computer applications relevant to wastewater operations control
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Wastewater Plant Operator II: One (1) year of experience performing the functions of a wastewater treatment plant operator.
License and Certification:
- A valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are required.
- A Grade II certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) plus any other state-mandated certification is required.
Wastewater Plant Operator III: Two (2) years of experience performing the functions of a wastewater treatment plant operator.
License and Certification:
- A valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are required.
- A Grade III certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) plus any other state-mandated certification is required.
- Within 12 months of appointment, must obtain licensing adequate to maintain compliance with all state and federal requirements for hazardous materials handling and transport. Current licensing requirement is: California Commercial Class C Driver's License (with hazardous material endorsement). Department of Motor Vehicle age restrictions may apply.
- Within 24 months of appointment, a California Class B Driver's License is required.
Progressively responsible experience at a Class III (or higher) conventional activated sludge plant and/or possession of a Grade IV (or higher) certificate, as well as continuous pursuit of higher level certifications, is highly desirable.
Other Requirements: Must be willing to work any day and shift within a 24-hour period.
