Job Description

The Low-Voltage Cable Technician will apply knowledge by installing, repairing, programming, and upgrading cable infrastructure for Access Control, burglar, fire, surveillance, and structured cabling systems. They will perform preventive maintenance and repairs by troubleshooting cabling issues and undertake the installation of data equipment, including data racks, patch panels, cable trays, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair cabling by pulling, terminating, labeling, and testing Cat 5 and Cat 6 cables, telephone/fax lines, coax cables, etc.
  • Install, maintain, and repair surveillance, burglar and fire alarm systems
  • Install support structures, including cable racks/trays, j-hooks, D-rings, inner duct, and other related structures
  • Installation of Wireless Access Points (WAPs)
  • Run fiber optic cable
  • Conduct thorough inspections of cable lines to ensure the system is working properly
  • Build out Main Data Frame/Intermediate Data Frame
  • Test and troubleshoot issues with network communications
  • Install patch panels
  • Create network documentation
  • Conducting operational tests on newly installed cable, telephone, and fiber-optic systems
  • Perform annual maintenance on existing cable systems. The main objective of a Cable Technician is to ensure that residential and business cable systems are always fully operational

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Prefer 1 -2 years experience, but all applicants will be considered
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Maintain a neat, professional demeanor and appearance... Wearing the company uniform during all project-related duties unless specifically directed otherwise by a superior
  • The ability to accept periodic assignments that involve travel away from the immediate head office area based on client needs, business needs, and project scope
  • Punctual
  • Knowledge of industry standards (BICSI, NEC, TIA/EIA). Please list certifications, if any.
  • Ability to move equipment up to 50 pounds, work in awkward and small spaces such as crawl spaces and attics, climb ladders, experience with boom/scissor lifts, and work at varying heights
  • Ability to understand basic wiring diagrams and installation instructions. Ability to complete the tasks assigned promptly
