Salary: $17.51-$34.08 DOE

Rockwood Preparatory Academy is a K-5 Charter School serving a diverse student population in the Reynolds School District, located in the Rockwood community of Portland. At RPA our mission is to provide excellence and justice in education by ensuring that ALL students, K-5, can demonstrate rock-solid reading, arithmetic, writing, and spelling skills. We provide a model public elementary school that dispels the myth that racial background and economic status are determinant factors in a child’s ability to reach high levels of academic achievement.

Instructional Aide Responsibilities:

  • Teaches small groups of students using Direct Instruction.
  • Follows the scripted curriculum with fidelity.
  • Supervises students at recess, lunch, and other times as requested.
  • When supervising or teaching students, follows and enforces all school-wide rules and behavior plans, and follows rules established by the classroom teacher.
  • Ensures that students are safe at all times.
  • Provides feedback to students.
  • Follows teacher recommendations to most effectively help students achieve mastery.
  • Uses recommended and age appropriate methods for motivating students to perform.
  • Maintains records of student work as directed and inputs data as necessary.
  • Works with struggling students
  • Follows PBIS requirements and the universal behavior plan
  • Participates on School Committees.
  • Attends and participates in Professional Development and training sessions.
  • Treats others with respect and professionalism
  • Punctuality and attendance are critical to success
  • Creates a positive educational climate for students to maximize their learning time
  • Documents behaviors or other incidents that occur
  • Performs all duties necessary for inventory and classroom cleanup following the last day of school
  • Keeps classroom clean on a daily basis (sweeping, dusting, etc. as needed)
  • Participates in formal and informal evaluation and responds to (and acts pon) feedback
  • Performs extra duties as assigned by administration on non-student days, such as cleaning, organizing, and preparing materials

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Successful experience working in schools preferred but not required
  • Experience using computers for word processing, data entry and retrieval, and Google Workspace applications
  • Communication skills in writing and speaking using effective and appropriate grammar and vocabulary
  • Displays initiative and accepts direction
  • Demonstrates proper etiquette and professionalism at all times
  • Serves as a role model for students
  • Outstanding integrity and moral character
  • Passion for a school environment and caring nature for students and others
  • Strong interpersonal skills to relate well with various stakeholders including administration, staff, parents, students, and outside vendors
  • Daily attendance and punctuality
  • Must speak English

Relationship Management:

  • Build/maintain relationships both internal and external for positive outcomes.
  • Collaborates with personnel and peers for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
  • Possesses the ability to prioritize effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Inspires groups of individuals to work together to achieve a common purpose, promotes a culture of open communication and respect.
  • Actively establishes and promotes best practices for processes and standards; analyzes reasons behind results, takes actions to address failures and seeks to improve outcomes.
  • Never accepts excuses for breaches of ethics, values, or regulations and addresses potential behavior in others.
  • Encourages constructive feedback and a culture that provides opportunity for development.

Wages, Hours & Reporting:

  • Hourly starting at $17.51 ($18.03 bilingual), wage classification based on experience
  • 40 hours per week
  • Reports to Principals and Instructional Coordinator
  • Shift: 7:30am- 4pm, M-F (4:30pm on Wednesdays for all staff Professional Development meeting)

Physical Demands : Work is performed in a school environment, will require bending, hearing voice conversations, communication in English or Braille, keyboarding, lifting up to 25lbs, pushing, reaching and walking. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. A considerable amount of sitting and standing is required.
  4. Environmental Demands: Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases, a wide range of weather conditions, and exposure to building cleaning equipment.
