Position Overview:

The Program Director at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro is a critical role within our organization, responsible for directing and managing daily operations of their assigned afterschool site, including high-quality program planning and implementation, student supervision and safety, staff supervision and training, facilities and resource management, community relations, and membership administration. The Program Director will also coordinate day-to-day operations of school break day camps and summer camp programs.


Key Responsibilities:


Leadership

  • Establish School Site programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and create an outcome-driven club environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development & SEL Outcomes and the California Department of Education requirements.
  • Oversee the provision of the day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are well maintained and accounted for.
  • Promotes and models positive reinforcement and discipline behavior with all members and staff.
  • Provide leadership to Youth Development Professionals (YDPs) at assigned site in the areas of: child supervision & safety, youth enrichment programming, positive mentorship and parent relationships.
  • Lead YDP’s in planning and implementing a holistic curriculum for a given site that reflects BGCSL values and BGCSL Blueprint structure.
  • Role model acceptable behaviors and decision-making for participants, peers and staff.
  • Actively participate in all related meetings, in-services, trainings, and activities.
  • Attend all-staff mandatory trainings.
  • Attend all Site Director Leadership trainings and retreats.
  • Required to participate in at least 1 BGCSL annual fundraiser events.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly BGCSL Program Director meetings.
  • Serve as the key person responsible for child safety and risk mitigation at a given site.
  • Excitement and positive attitude toward working with children.
  • Dedication to the pursuit of education (for self and students)

Strategic Planning

  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate Site overall programs, staff, services and activities to ensure they meet grant compliance stated objectives and member needs and interests.
  • Compile monthly regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance, snack and participation. Must meet monthly administrative deadlines.
  • Ensures the development and implementation of the strategic planning process for the program including the development of annual program objectives.
  • Manage and implement using data from Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro’s CRM
  • Utilize appropriate guidance and developmental techniques with participants to create an orderly environment that is conducive to learning and child safety.
  • Perform monthly written site observations of YDP’s and site programming.
  • Lead a weekly all staff meeting with a set agenda incorporating relevant professional development training and tools.
  • Evaluate programs and staff on an ongoing basis and make recommendations for improvements or adjustments: Assess, Plan, Improve, and Repeat.
  • NYOI (BGCA National Youth Outcomes Initiative) Assessment Tool to be completed by all members and each staff member annually.
  • Participate in all BGCSL organization led member and family events.
  • Participate and hold an active role in at least one Site-Director lead Committee.

Resource Management

  • Manages the site operations within approved budget.
  • Manage financial resources, participating in the development of annual budgets.
  • Control expenditures against budget, making recommendations for expenditures to purchase supplies and equipment.
  • Works closely with school staff and the school district to assure the cleanliness, attractiveness and safety of property and equipment.
  • Promotes and stimulates cooperative relationships and interest in club activities and events within the local school community including school staff, parents, general public, civic groups, and social agencies.
  • Partnership Development
  • Represents the organization and interprets its objectives, standards, and programs.
  • Promotes and stimulates membership within the club. Coordinates publicity for programs and services within the Club and the community.
  • Attend school site faculty meeting per quarter to educate faculty about on-site programming and upcoming events.
  • Schedule and prepare a minimum of one agenda itemized meeting with on-site Principal monthly.
  • Weekly and daily “check-ins” with Principal, school-day administrators and parents to align “whole school, whole day, whole child” initiative.

Relationships

Internal:

  • Maintains close, daily contact with club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information.
  • Has daily interaction with members as needed to discipline, advise, coach and counsel.

External:

  • Maintains contact with school site staff, San Leandro/San Lorenzo Unified School District, club members, parents, PTA, external community groups and others to assist in promoting the Club and resolving problems and issues.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Purchases supplies and equipment with the approval of the Area Director.
  • Works with club staff to carry out daily programs in all areas.
  • Exercises authority in problems relating to members; utilizes guidance and positive discipline plan.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Skills, Experience & Training:

  • A four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of work experience in a Boys & Girls Clubs or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
  • Demonstrated ability in program planning.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, recruitment, motivation and retention of key personnel.
  • Ability to train, supervise and motivate staff.
  • Ability to deal effectively with members' discipline problems.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control and management.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Valid State Driver's License.


Physical Requirements:

In order to supervise the program and interact with the children, the Program Director must be able to engage in high levels of physical activity, including running, jumping, throwing balls and occasional lifting of 50 lbs. or less.

The workplace may be in a school setting utilizing a combination of indoor and outdoor, cold weather, warm weather conditions.
