Job Description
Primary Hours: M-F, 8 to 5. **May also have occasional weekends hours as needed- schedule discussed in advance**

Key Functions

1. Clinical Activities

A. Assessment

  • Assess clients’ interests, strengths, and independent living skills to help the client develop overall rehabilitation goals (real-world goals). Assessment should cover independent living skills, functional capacity, aptitudes, interests, values, and leisure.
  • Identify, administer, and interpret Vocational Assessments by using Myers- Briggs MBTI and Strong Interest to generate career report
  • Knowledgeable on ADA legislation and employment/academic accommodations
  • Contribute input to the diagnostic formulation
  • Conduct consultations in areas of specialized expertise, i.e., behavioral plans, social skills, etc.
  • Collaborate with client and interdisciplinary team members in disposition planning/discharge planning
  • Assist in determining appropriate rehabilitation interventions that are congruent with client needs and communicate to appropriate individuals
  • Document responses to Psych Rehab Interventions utilizing electronic medical health records.

B. Interventions

  • Provide psychosocial skills training and practice through:
    • Individual, i.e., IMR techniques
    • Group, i.e., social skills, goal setting, DBT, interpersonal relationships
    • Other specialized treatments according to areas of competence, i.e. music therapy
  • Initiate comprehensive wellness planning in collaboration with the client and interdisciplinary treatment team member which entails helping the pt. comprise a useable document that summarizes an understanding of the pt’s illness/disabilities as well as how to manage the illness and disabilities while pursuing recovery-related goals.
  • Provide health promotion groups, i.e., creative expression, fitness, crafts
  • Assist in addressing Axis IV and V diagnoses and improving functionality in those areas
  • Engage clients in treatment through a variety of modalities
  • Report pertinent observations and reactions regarding clients to the appropriate staff and record them accurately and concisely
  • Provide feedback to clients and interdisciplinary team members
  • Assist and coach clients on activities of daily living including, but not limited to budgeting, cooking, hygiene, and housing management.
  • Provide in-vivo coaching and counseling regarding functional, vocational, or academic goals
  • Provide vocational education, skills training, and exposures to help clients who are pursuing employment, including but not limited to resume development, application training, interview training, accommodations requests, and employer communication.
  • Provide academic support and training for clients who are pursuing their education during treatment, including but not limited to school applications, accommodations requests, enrollment, advising, study skills training, and accountability for maintaining study schedules.
  • Coordinate volunteer opportunities for clients in collaboration with the rest of the rehab team
    • Maintain a list of, and relationships with, local volunteer opportunities
    • Maintain a willingness to engage in volunteer activities with clients who may need support or encouragement to engage in these activities
  • Lead weekly community integration exposure activity with other clinical staff
    • Assist in scheduling or coordinating with event sites prior to the activity
    • Coordinate financial obligations of the activity in collaboration with program leadership
    • Assist in transporting clients
    • Actively participate in activity be available to assist the clinical team in crisis management during the activity
  • Collaborate with clients to identify community leisure activities for the week

C. Teamwork

  • Contribute to team meetings, diagnostic conferences, program council, rounds, community meetings, discipline meetings, committees, and work groups
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new staff
  • Provide education to the rest of the team regarding rehabilitation work
  • Provide guidance and supervision to Resident Advisor staff on how to support client’s in their rehabilitation goals

2. Academic Activities

A. Teaching

  • Provide presentations to professional and community audiences

3. Institutional service and professional development

  • Perform administrative and committee duties consistent with assigned roles
  • Contribute to program development utilizing psychiatric rehabilitation evidence-based practices
  • Participate in hiring activities
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through in-service training, supervision, workshops, grand rounds, and other educational activities


Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in a mental health-related field to include specific training in psychiatric rehabilitation methods

Education Preferred: Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling to include specific training in psychiatric rehabilitation methods

License/Certification: Licensure/certification in mental health allied discipline specialty (such as CPRP or CRC) OR the ability to sit for the requisite examination within 18 months of hire.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in psychiatric rehabilitation treatment methods. Prior experience in the mental health field
