JOB SUMMARY:

We are searching for our next SUPERSTAR!! As the Optometric Technician you will be responsible to assist the optometrist in providing optometric care to our patient population. The Optometric Technician must be well versed in departmental policies and standards in order to efficiently perform assignments. The Optometric Technician must be able to maintain good public and working relationships and be familiar with community health and social services. The Optometric Technician must display outstanding interpersonal skills and a commitment to exemplary customer service.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greets patients, verifies insurance information and gathers demographic information for appointments
  • Checks patients in and completes prescreening tasks
  • Compiles ophthalmic, general health, family and social histories
  • Conducts preliminary testing in coordination with the doctor
  • Stocks and prepares the examination rooms for patient care
  • Performs specialty testing, including visual fields and fundus photography
  • Documents patient care in electronic medical records (EMR) system
  • Collects payments and co-payments
  • Schedules follow-up and specialty testing appointments and coordinates consults
  • Abides by infection control policies and procedures as dictated in the Centro del Barrio Infection Control Manual
  • Abides by policies and procedures on hazardous materials as dictated in the Employee Safety Manual
  • Abides by all safety policies as dictated in the Employee Safety Manual
  • Demonstrates competence with patients aged 3 and older
  • Participates in the agency’s Quality Improvement Program
  • Performs other duties as required

Requirements:Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Experience: 12 month experience in a clinic or hospital setting preferred.
  • Other: Bilingual/Bicultural preferred.
  • Other: Certified Optometric Assistant (COA) preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must be able to meet the attendance requirements of the position.
  • Must not pose a threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to deliver excellent customer service, externally and internally
