Job Description

A project engineer III’s primary responsibility is to provide engineering support in efforts of feasibility development, design generation and review, and engineer mechanical systems for oil and gas facilities.  As an intermediate resource, the engineer will take the lead on aspects of project designs, participate in design reviews with customers, and lead site walk-downs in the field.  The project engineer III will develop templates and assist with vendor selection in design.  A project engineer III is considered to be familiar with oil and gas processing and is expected to be able to operate independently with guidance from senior engineering resources.

 

This position will also serve as a client-facing representative of the Employer, requiring the resource to communicate with clients as needed and support the installed base of CANUSA EPC clients.  This position, may be require travel to customer sites, events, or training related to business activities for the Employer.

 

1.                  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Communicate with Project Team members

·         Generate and evaluate specification of piping, compression and rotating equipment

·         Specify and review vendor requirements & documentation

·         Monitor & control vendor progress and conformity to design specifications

·         Create Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)

·         Perform independent engineering assignments

·         Review and approve detailed piping designs

·         Work with, guide and support junior engineers

·         Support of CANUSA EPC projects in North America, requiring visits away from home to support and start-up CANUSA EPC projects

·         Conduct on-site surveys to gather field data

·         Interface with customer corporate and operations personnel

·         Understanding and practice of CANUSA EPC safety standards while performing business-related services

·         Participate in companywide or team meetings

·         Meet technical team department productivity and quality goals

·         Communicate with supervisors and managers

·         Perform to CANUSA EPC to engineering standards, policies, and details

·         Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule

2.                  SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:

 

·         Proficient knowledge in oil & gas related piping codes (ASME B31)

·         Proficient in P&IDs and Material Mass Balance diagrams and drawings

·         Proficient in Compression, Pump and Rotating Equipment Sizing

·         Working Knowledge in NavisWorks & Bluebeam

·         Proficient in Piping Design & Specifications

·         Proficient in Pipe Sizing Calculations

·         Proficient in Sizing engineered values and instrumentation (PSVs, Meters, Valves, etc)

·         Working Knowledge in process simulation (Promax, Hysys)

·         Working Knowledge of oil & gas project constructability & logistics requirements

·         Working Knowledge in Project Management Plans, Stages, and Processes.

·         Proficient in Word & Excel

 

3.                  EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

·         Minimum level of 6 years’ experience engineering

·         Minimum level of 4 years’ experience in upstream and midstream oil and gas

·         A successful candidate will have various experiences working at or with EPCMs, producers and midstream companies

·         Strong technical/computer background 

·         Successfully manage multiple priorities and assignments 

·         Work independently and within a team environment 

 

4.                  EDUCATION / DESIGNATION REQUIREMENTS

·         Accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering

·         Active professional engineering licensure in the United States

·         Passed FE exam and working towards PE

·         A valid driver’s license

·         A passport and eligible travel to Canada

 

 

5.                  LANGUAGE SKILLS 

·         Oral communication—the individual speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrates group presentation skills and conducts meetings. 

·         Written Communication—the individual edits work for spelling and grammar, presents numerical data effectively and is able to read and interpret written information. 

 

6.                  REASONING ABILITY 

·         Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draws valid conclusions.

The performance of this position may require travel in North America & job sites where under certain areas require the use of PPE (personal protective equipment). For the most part, the employee will be subject to ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
