  • Paint and Final Assembly Systems: paint shops and final assembly systems for the automotive industry
  • Application Technology: robot technologies for the automatic application of paint as well as sealants and adhesives Measuring and Process Systems: balancing and cleaning systems as well as testing and filling technology

We are a growing organization, and we are seeking a Project Engineer to join our Paint and Final Assembly division. Together, with the momentum of our business vision, we can achieve international success and added innovation in all of the themes which Dürr influences at a global level.

Location: Southfield, MI

Position Summary: The Project Engineer - Service / Commissioning is responsible for the commissioning of hardware and software to customer specifications. This is a field support position reporting to the Commissioning Manager and the Director of Operations. This position may also require oversight/management and site supervision to meet the project goals and schedules. He or she must work closely with the individual site teams to ensure that installations are complete, ready for startup and the necessary resources and plans are in place for a successful startup and launch. The position will involve travel and possibly extended stays at the job site(s)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide commissioning for projects and products
  • Familiar with paint shop equipment including but not limited to:
  • Heater boxes
  • Air houses and all internal aspects of (i.e. coils and trains, burners and gas trains, fans, filters, etc.
  • Paint scrubber systems (booth proper and paint scrubber)
  • Building utilities, (ie. Chillers, boilers, etc...)
  • Conduct equipment start-up and debug (as notated above)
  • Verify hardwired installation
  • Debug controls hardware and software
  • Record baseline data
  • Mark up drawing changes
  • Project performance and data collection
  • Input schedule
  • Produce daily site reports
  • Provide standby and customer support
  • Support field personnel
  • Support selection and controls of suppliers and Purchased Equipment vendors
  • Assist with installation supervision as needed
  • Work as part of a team on major projects or individually on smaller projects
  • Travel approximately 75%

Nonessential Functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma is required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject (e.g., engineering, construction management) is a plus.
  • 5 or more years of position related experience in paint finishing products or in a similar industry. Working knowledge of paint finishing products preferred.
  • Familiar with basic electrical and mechanical engineering principals
  • Familiar with P&ID schematics and controls
  • Familiar with regulatory standards (OSHA, NFPA, BOCA)
  • Working knowledge of PLCs (e.g. Allen Bradley)
  • Able to read and interpret AutoCAD drawings
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of SAP is a plus
  • Good time management skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Good technical writing skills
  • Able to work well independently and in a team environment
  • Able to technically define problems and propose solutions
  • Adaptable to change in a learning environment
  • Willing and able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary

Physical Demands: While performing duties of job, incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; climb stairs and use hands and arms. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and distance vision.
