Mammography Tech

Mammography Technologist operates radiologic equipment to make clinical diagnostic x-ray films as directed by physicians. The Mammography Technologist obtains diagnostic imaging radiographs, utilizing appropriate radiation and general safety practices. In addition to obtaining radiograph (utilizing minimal exposure and appropriate positioning techniques), the technologist is a responsible for patient communication and experience while in the diagnostic imaging department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all radiographic and mammographic examinations within equipment limits and according to established protocols. Positions patients and adjusts equipment for taking x-rays following established procedures.
- Processes and critiques all films for diagnostic quality and correctness. Examines radiologic film for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification and distortion.
- Submits completed examinations for radiologist interpretation and official reporting.
- Performs Quality Assurance and Controls daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semiannually, and annually according to established QA program guidelines for all equipment. Documents all QA checks on appropriate forms relative to QA guidelines for all equipment.
- Interacts with patients in a timely and positive manner. Introduces himself/herself and explains procedure. Selects length and intensity for radiation exposure by adjusting equipment on individual patient basis. Authorizes release of patients upon completion of radiologic examination.
- Ability to assist in all departmental administrative work.
- Ability to schedules mammograms using EHR system
- Maintains x-ray log. Initiates and files flash cards in x-ray jackets.
- Forwards x-ray reports to appropriate provider, then files report in the patient’s electronic chart.
- Obtains previous films and reports for comparison studies.
- Checks films out to patients and other facilities according to Health Center guidelines. Checks films in when returned
- Maintains database on all x-ray patients for reporting purposes. Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Orders all supplies and film.
- Maintains all working environments including restocking rooms and keeping work areas clean at all times. Cleans and makes minor adjustments to radiologic equipment.
- Trains students within Mountain Park Health Center guidelines.
- Promotes positive patient/guest relation in accordance with Mountain Park Health Center policies, providing a high level of quality in personal attention and service to patients and visitors.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Completion of course in radiologic technology approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Registration in Radiography and Mammography are required. Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) certification is required.
- Experience with Mammography 2D required, 3D/Tomosynthesis experience preferred.
- Breast Ultrasound experience preferred ARRT (BS)
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES
- Current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (R)(M).
- Current certificate with ADHS (CRT, CMT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
