Job Title: Audio/Video Manager

Department: Parks and Recreation

Reports To: Parks and Recreation Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY: The Audio/Video Supervisor has the responsibility for the daily maintenance operations of the Woodlands Auditorium, as well as the technical operations of all recreation facilities, both indoor and outdoor, including lighting, sound, audio visual, design and construction, and coordinating necessary maintenance, as well as support sound and a/v needs in other departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Maintains harmony among employees and solves grievances.
  2. Operates, maintains and safeguards the technical assets of the recreation facilities, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities.
  3. Assists other POA facilities with their sound and audio visual needs.
  4. Review technical riders to determine the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented throughout Hot Springs Village in advance of production dates.
  5. Designs, sets up, maintains, and operates lighting and sound systems for theatre, dance, music, and other productions and projects; assists guest designers and artists with technical matters.
  6. Advises customers on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervises the implementations of approved technical designs.
  7. Supervises and assists with set and stage construction and management.
  8. Orients facility customers as to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations; facilitates the use of the technical facilities by those using or renting the facility.
  9. Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, audio visual and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
  10. Assists with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.
  11. Schedules staff to attend technical rehearsals, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of mounting the show.
  12. Assist in working with organization representatives relative to programs, and scheduling to create a stable, satisfying level of programming for the community.
  13. Must be able to work nights, weekends and/or holidays when required.
  14. May be required to drive POA vehicle or personal vehicle while conducting POA business.
  15. Regular attendance is required.
  16. Any other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  17. Deliver outstanding customer service, making every effort to accommodate customer needs.
  18. Ensure the safety of patrons and staff through accident prevention and safety policy, enforcing all facility and recreation location rules and regulations.
  19. Have a thorough knowledge of rules, regulations and operational use with regard to POA amenity use.
  20. Maintain a safe, clean amenity/facility at all times.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises employees at Woodlands Auditorium. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS: The Audio/Video Supervisor works with a great deal of independence and exercises independent judgment in performing a wide variety of duties. Because of the operating hours of most facilities, close supervision is not normally required nor expected. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The manager should have the ability to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances; plan, develop, schedule and provide the technical supports required for each event or performance; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; design and construct sets; design lighting and sound systems appropriate to each performance or oversee stage crews and volunteers; perform repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment; maintain inventory of necessary supplies; assist in budget preparation; establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of various groups, vendors, co-workers , and others; maintain irregular and extended working hours; able to lift, push or pull objects up to 100 pounds using appropriate tools.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Because the supervisor may be called upon to deal with a wide range of technical issues, he or she benefits from a working knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance, and music productions and presentations including stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; stage management; computerized lighting systems; stage carpentry; appropriate safety precautions and procedures. High School degree or equivalent; minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Extensive knowledge of complex commercial sound systems. Requires knowledge of stage lighting systems, audio/visual systems. Must possess computer skills and a working knowledge of computer networking.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Must exhibit excellent public relations skills in working with artists and presenters.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Requires a valid Arkansas drivers license and clean driving record with proof of liability insurance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Must be able to climb ladders and use cat walks as well as stoop, bend and crawl. Must be able to work at heights of more than 30 feet with safety harness. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus. Job requires much walking, long periods of sitting or standing, speaking coherently, comprehensive hearing and reading capabilities, clear vision at all distances and accurate color vision.
