Seasonal Youth Baseball/Softball Supervisor

The Highlands Ranch Metro District is a special district employing more than 100 full-time staff, and an almost equal number of seasonal staff who assist during the busy summer months. In addition to caring for the many beautiful parks, trails, open spaces, and landscape along the major streets that make Highlands Ranch such a great community, we also provide outdoor sports and activities in our many parks.
We are currently seeking applicants for the Seasonal Youth Baseball/Softball Supervisor to provide supervision of the youth t-ball, baseball, and girls’ softball program and assist the Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Coordinator(s) in the administration and smooth operation of leagues. Successful candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have some practical experience in athletics, recreation, physical education, or other related field.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs a variety of tasks to assist in the coordination, development, and implementation of the youth t-ball, baseball and girls’ softball program and services.
- Ensure that coaches provide safe and proper instruction to all participants.
- Assists in the distribution of equipment and uniforms to all teams.
- Assists in the organization of equipment inventory and the equipment storage building.
- Assists in the scheduling of games and umpires.
- Assists in supervising, training, and supporting seasonal and contractual umpires.
- Assists in the recommendation and evaluation of improvements to programs that will provide maximum enjoyment for all the participants.
- Provides supervision at all playing fields, inclusive of games and practices.
- Updates team standings daily using the league website and district email.
- Assists in conducting coaches and umpire meetings and/or training.
- Umpires games when needed
- Preps fields for play if necessary
- Assists with ensuring the safety of employees as well as participants, maintains discipline, makes weather-based decisions, and assists with handling complaints from the public.
- Performs other routine office functions and special assignments or events as directed by the Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Coordinator(s)
- Complies with District and department rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor. Receives direction from Recreation Coordinator(s) on projects and tasks as assigned.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises contractual umpires and volunteers, participants, and spectators.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Assists in the recruitment and selection of volunteer coaches and umpires.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Less than one year of practical experience in athletics, recreation, physical education, or related field
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of officiating, sports, and recreation
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment
- Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred; or the ability to obtain certification within one (1) month.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, umpires, coaches, volunteers, participants, and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to plan and supervise staff and volunteers.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid state driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Personal computers, including word processing software, excel, calculator, copy and fax machine, phone, cell phone, automobile, and various sports equipment used in recreation programs.

WORK SCHEDULE
Work schedules will vary depending on games and programs and will include evenings and weekends. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee will be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office or moderately loud when in the field.
