Job Description

Job Summary:This position is directly responsible for the handling of accounting duties for the organization, including but not limited to account reconciliation, preparing and processing of accurate data for the records for Black Women for Wellness.

  1. Bank account reconciliations
  2. General Ledger Reconciliations
  3.  Accounts payable
  4. Accounts Receivable
  5. Journal Entries
  6.  Filing
  7. Other duties as assigned, depending on department and organizational needs.

Skills and Experience:

  1. BS/BA College degree required including, requisite college level courses in accounting, finance and business, non-profit industry experience.
  2. A minimum of one year of non-profit experience.
  3. Knowledge of non-profit GAAP
  4.   Experience using QuickBooks desktop, Microsoft Office, intermediate Excel skills, and general knowledge of accounting and financial procedures.
  5. Good customer service to vendors and staff. Must interface well with others.
  6. Flexibility to handle complex multiple tasks.
  7. Set priorities and deal effectively with shifting priorities.
  8. Ability to work well under pressure and adhere to the strict deadlines of the position.
  9. Must be computer savvy, detail oriented, and efficient.
  10.  Familiar with Single-Audits

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm (Hybrid)

Travel Required: 5%

Expected Hours: 40 hours per week.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • The person in this position occasionally needs to move about inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

Mental Requirements: Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota.

We are a multi-generational, community oriented, volunteer-driven organization utilizing civic engagement, health education, policy and media outreach to address the health inequities of Black women, our children and families. Black Women for Wellness has touched the lives of over millions women (and our families) with health information, education and legislation. Our strategies include: (1) Increasing communication, networking and information sharing among community members; (2) Developing and implementing programs and health education materials that are culturally and gender attuned to the lifestyles and needs of South Los Angeles Black women and families; (3) Supporting and empowering women to take leadership roles and positions that advocate for and drive resources; (4) Research and validation of effective prevention strategies and tools while documenting new trends that impact health and well being; (4) Being an active listening voice concerning the health status of Black women and their families.
