Job Description

OVERVIEW: The UA Technician provides drug and alcohol sobriety monitoring of clients and other persons referred from the Courts, probation departments, other criminal justice and private referral agencies in accordance with good customer service and within HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act) and 42CFR regulations. Individual will also assist in providing back. Some clerical work and transporting clients will be required. The individual must be a team player.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

  • Observes collection of urine samples from clients of the same gender in accordance with established procedures for substance abuse testing protocol.
  • Preforms other drug testing procedures such as saliva collection, BAL or hair test collection.
  • Ordering of all testing supplies on a regular basis.
  • Adhere strictly to chain of custody in handling collection, samples and information to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Adhere strictly to KCS policy and procedures regarding collection and testing procedures.
  • Maintain records electronically and in patient files of urine and/or other test submissions. Update client data to ensure accuracy.
  • Greet and respond to persons accessing the Klallam Counseling Center either in-person or by telephone to help ensure that they have a pleasant and satisfactory visit.
  • Assure an efficient client flow system, receiving clients and routing them to appropriate staff person and provide necessary information to clients and staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and the ability to model the expectations of confidentiality.
  • Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere to KCS agency policies and procedures.
  • Preforms back up reception as needed and assists reception with data entry as needed.
  • Transport clients in KCS transport van and drive KCS shuttle as needed.
  • Preform other related duties as assigned by the Treatment Manager or Lead Counselor which includes assisting other staff when available.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalency.
  • Absolute adherence to confidentiality.
  • Minimum of one year experience in greeting and working with the public.
  • Computer competency in word processing, spreadsheets, and data base.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to express thoughts clearly in verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with clients and the community.
  • Ability to multi-task and assume a variety of roles depending on need.
  • Ability to follow instructions and adhere to prescribed routines and practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relationships.
  • Ability to comply with department and Tribal policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and maintain program goals and priorities.
  • Ability to multi-task and assume a variety of roles depending on need.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Good personal hygiene and grooming.
  • Must possess an unrestricted, valid driver’s license and be able to drive KCS transport vans.
  • If past drug/alcohol abuse exists, must have a minimum of 1 year clean.
  • If past client of KCS, must not have been a current client in the past 6 months.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Stamina to work 40 hours per week primarily in an office setting
  • Ability to reach and squat for filing purposes
  • Walking and standing; sitting down for long period of time
  • Ability to lift and carry light loads of approximately 25 pounds
  • Requires use of standard office equipment, including computer, phone, fax, and photocopier
  • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse population who may exhibit a wide range of emotions and behaviors.

OTHER DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to comply with the LOWER KLALLAM TRIBE policies and procedures, including the Drug Free Workplace
  • Demonstrated knowledge and the ability to model the expectations of confidentiality.

With all positions of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe this position is Indian Preference in hiring, in accordance with P.L. 93-638.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

This person must be of the conviction that alcoholism and other drug addiction are treatable illnesses and public health problems.

This person must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering all client-related information.

As with all other KCS Program employees, the person in this position shall have no history of evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for a minimum period of one year immediately prior to the date of employment at KCS. The employee’s supervisor shall sign and date the job description to affirm the validity of the information herein. The employee shall also sign and date the job description which signifies compliance with the conditions of employment, minimum qualifications and an understanding of the job requirements.
