Job Summary:

The Head of Mechanical Systems at EOS Aircraft, Inc. will oversee the design, development, and integration of all mechanical systems within our aircraft. This includes the landing gear, environmental control systems, fuel systems, water and waste, pneumatic systems, among others. The successful candidate will lead a team of engineers and collaborate closely with other departments to ensure that our mechanical systems meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability. The successful candidate will provide technical and organizational leadership to the Mechanical Systems team, driving innovation and ensuring our aircraft meets the highest standards of sustainability and performance. This role reports to the Chief Engineer, Vice President of Engineering.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership in Mechanical Systems Design: Direct the design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical systems ensuring they meet operational, maintenance, safety, and performance requirements.
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, providing guidance and support in their projects, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with other engineering disciplines, including electrical, propulsion, avionics, and structural teams, to ensure integrated system development and optimization.
  • Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of mechanical systems projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Technology Innovation: Drive the thoughtful adoption of innovative technologies and methods in mechanical systems design and development, enhancing the performance and sustainability of our aircraft.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all mechanical systems designs comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements, and that they undergo rigorous testing and validation processes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the mechanical systems engineering team in discussions with external partners, suppliers, customers, and regulatory bodies, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the strategic planning of the engineering organization, identifying key objectives, resources, and technologies required to achieve the company’s long-term goals.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years in the aerospace industry within an aircraft or OEM environment, with substantial leadership experience in engineering, particularly through the design, development, and certification lifecycle of EASA/FAA Part 25 aircraft.
  • Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of Mechanical Systems disciplines, with significant experience in the conceptual and preliminary design of transport category aircraft.
  • Education: Advanced degree in aerospace, aeronautical engineering, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated flexibility to work in a dynamic environment typical of a start-up, contributing to the growth of EOS as an organization.
  • Prior experience in an aerospace start-up or with (electric) aircraft development is highly valued.
  • A strong passion for innovation in aviation and a commitment to advancing sustainable transport solutions.
