Branch:Education and Training  
Position Title:Education and Career Advisor, YMCA International Learning Center (ILC) 
Position Type:Part-time hourly, some evening hours required 
 
The Education and Career Advisor is passionate about our mission to support adult English language learners moving into thriving self-sufficiency in the U.S. workforce and culture. The position coordinates with administrative and teaching staff to administer quality programming that supports students’ progress toward their next steps in postsecondary education, training, and/or employment leading to a family-sustaining wage. 
 
The ideal candidate will have: 
·       Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, or related field, preferred 
·       Familiarity with DESE policies and requirements preferred 
·       Strong organizational and communication skills 
Advanced digital literacy skills, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 

Key Responsibilities
Advising responsibilities include (50%): 
·       Assist students in identifying their personal, educational, and career goals and help determine measurable steps to be taken toward their goals 
·       Lead classroom activities and plan field trips to support goal setting  
·       Gather and share information about steps needed for career paths that interest the students. 
·       Provide individual advising sessions with students, document goals and progress to share with classroom teachers. 
·       Assist students with job searching, seeking a training program, or applying to college. 
·       Help students navigate available resources and social service agencies. 
·       Ensure students meet program attendance requirements and troubleshoot when necessary. 
·       Assist with intake, placement, and orientation 
·       Develop and maintain relationships with community and WIOA partners. 
·       Collaborate with program coordinator in bi-weekly advising meetings to address student concerns and share insights and resources. 
·       Research employment sectors, training programs, and possible career pathways within high demand industries and inform advisors and teachers of current and developing trends. 
·       Provide quarterly follow-up of students after leaving program 
·       Participate in weekly staff meetings 
 
Documentation responsibilities include (30%): 
·       Check attendance sheets weekly and follow up with students with absence. 
·       Ensure advising appointments are scheduled. 
·       Ensure timely and accurate documentation of student advising data into ILC and funder databases and monitor ILC performance according to funder standards. 
 
Administrative responsibilities include (20%): 
·       Maintain up-to-date knowledge of funder policies and requirements. 
·       Engage in high-quality professional development in accordance with ILC and funder standards. 
·       Participate actively in meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of program. 
·       Administer BEST Plus 2.0, TABE CLAS-E and other ILC tests as needed. 
·       Assist with front desk coverage and information sessions as needed.
