Welcome to the City of Box Elder, the "Gateway to the Black Hills" and home to Ellsworth Air Force Base. We are located just outside of Rapid City in the beautiful western side of South Dakota. Nestled close to the famous "Black Hills," we are only a short distance to miles of hiking trails, skiing/snowboarding within 45 minutes, and countless other natural wonders all within a short drive. The City of Box Elder is seeking an experienced and visionary Economic and Community Development Director to lead our efforts in driving sustainable growth, fostering business investment, and enhancing the quality of life for our growing community. This pivotal role involves strategic planning, implementing economic and community development initiatives aimed at attracting and retaining businesses, and fostering community partnerships.

This is an ideal role for someone with a passion for public service, is detail-oriented with excellent communication skills, strong time management, and has the experience to drive economic and community development initiatives for the City of Box Elder.

You are an excellent fit if you have:

• Proven experience in economic development and community planning.
• A passion for data-driven decision-making and innovative strategies.

• The ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• A deep understanding of small-town economic development challenges and opportunities.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in degree in economic development, urban planning, business administration, or a related field AND five (5) years in economic development, community development, or a related field, two (2) years of which were in a supervisory role, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong knowledge of principles and practices of economic and business development.
• Exceptional leadership and communication abilities, with a track record of successfully leading teams to achieve departmental goals.

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

• Valid driver's license.
