Job Description

This is a non-exempt, full-time position (32.5-hour work week) with office assignment at the Headquarters of the International Association of Fire Fighters in Washington D.C. Position Summary: Conducts comprehensive evaluations and detailed analysis of emergency medical response systems using customized research and interviews with IAFF affiliate leaders, Fire Chiefs, EMS officials and politicians. Develops and provides technical assistance to affiliates regarding changes to fire protection and EMS system delivery. Provides information on reimbursement methods and other financial matters, including health insurance and Medicare/Medicaid payments to ambulance services.

 

Responsibilities:

• Provides subject matter expertise across a broad range of public safety issues, such as fire and EMS operations

• Coordinates with other IAFF departments to educate federal, state and local government agencies on EMS-related policies, rules and regulations

• Conducts analysis on EMS integration, EMS system enhancement, fire department staffing and deployment and attend industry significant stakeholder meetings to represent the interests of the IAFF and its members

• Maintain proficiency in EMS rules and regulations, including but not limited to, Medicare and Medicaid compliance, patient billing, and HIPAA

• Collaborate on policy and information papers for industry-wide audiences, maintains existing reports, analyzes proposed legislative changes and develops new reports, which must meet customer requirements

• Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission

Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• A minimum of 5 years field experiences as a firefighter-EMS practitioner or single-role EMS practitioner in a fire-based system as an employee of the fire department.

• Maintains EMS licensure or certification

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Excellent analytical and research skills with excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships and to make persuasive arguments with internal and external stakeholders

• Ability to conduct self-review of work content

• Extensive practical experience in fire and EMS service, including: knowledge of the government rules, regulations, and procedures affecting fire and EMS services

• Fundamental knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS and other associated software

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
