Department: Behavioral Health Job Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: Director of Behavioral Health

Amount of Travel Required: up to 50% Positions Supervised: None

Work Schedule:

8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday- Thursday

7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday (Portland and Eudora only)

8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday.

Additional hours may be required to complete duties.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Behavioral Health Consultant is part of the primary care team and under the supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health. The Behavioral Health Consultant’s primary purpose will be to work in conjunction with the health services within the health center in order to provide behavioral health, health consultation to children, adolescents, adults and families in order to improve psychosocial functioning and overall health outcomes. This position demands the ability to interact with federal, state, and local agencies in order to maximize resources, and to coordinate program development goals. The Behavioral Health Consultant is involved in continuous quality improvement practices and measures as set by Mainline Health Systems, Inc. and in which the practice focus is based on a Patient Centered Medical Home model of care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include but not limited to:

  • At the PCP’s request, BHC will consult with patients and assist the PCP with assessment and co-management of target problems.
  • Conduct assessments (i.e. diagnosis) and brief, focused interventions, and/or consultations gearing their services toward early identification, triage, quick resolution, and long-term wellness.
  • Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions.
  • Assist in the direction of “at risk” patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
  • Provide timely and succinct feedback to PCPs about all referred patients.
  • When not in the primary care clinic, BHC’s are readily available to the PCP by phone during usual duty hours to provide consultation.
  • Due to the lack of resources in the area, BHC’s may maintain a small caseload of patients providing short-term psychotherapy services utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Assist with referrals to other services (e.g. substance abuse treatment facilities, specialty care, community resources) as needed.
  • Support the expansion and enhancement of the integrated behavioral health program.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of services provided to each patient.
  • Adheres to applicable regulatory guidelines and laws, including but not limited to HIPAA/HITECH, CLIA, HRSA, and OSHA.
  • Provide reports and updates to the COO as assigned in a timely manner.
  • Serve as part of the care team; following and implementing workflows that support and sustain MHSI Patient Centered Medical Home model of care.
  • Participates in all Risk Management activities as assigned.
  • Ability to travel for activities such as meetings, classes, and/or conferences. Must be able to travel by air as needed to attend training and related activities, including overnight travel.
  • Other duties as assigned by the COO

QUALIFICATIONS: All listed below are key skills necessary for the position.

  1. LCSW, LPC, Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a Ph.D. or Psy.D from an APA approved Clinical Psychology program.
  2. Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel.
  3. Able to perform proficiently on current practice management system and/or electronic medical records.
  4. Excellent working knowledge of behavioral medicine and evidence-based treatments for medical and mental health conditions.
  5. Good knowledge of psycho-pharmacology.
  6. Excellent communication, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with people of all backgrounds.
  7. Ability to take direction and work well with a team but also be self motivated.
  8. Bilingual preferred, Spanish.
  9. Engages in professional development activities, such as trainings and CEUs.
  10. Ability to work through brief patient contacts as well as to make quick and accurate clinical assessment of mental health and behavioral conditions.
  11. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

An office environment in a controlled atmosphere building. This is an OSHA low –risk position.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports directly to the Behavioral Health Director

EVALUATION:

Annual evaluation performed by Behavioral Health Director.

STATUS:

This is a FLSA Exempt position.

This is an OSHA low risk position.

This is an ADA negotiable position.

This is a safety sensitive position. ( Arkansas Act 593 of 2017)
