Job Description

Overnight Security Officer

Position Purpose:

Responsible for ensuring the safety and security of hotel guests, associates and the physical asset overall during the 3rd shift by remaining highly visible throughout the hotel. This is accomplished in large part by conducting rounds and inspecting interior guest areas of the public spaces and guestroom hallways as well as the heart of house spaces and exterior grounds.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to climb and descend stairways.
  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up-to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to stand during entire shift.

Mental requirements:

  • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations.
  • Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
  • Must be effective in handling issues in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from disparate sources and consider, adjust or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by co-workers and guests.

DUTIES & FUNCTIONS Essential:

  • Approach all encounters with guests and associates in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and name tag when working (per brand standards)
  • Comply at all times with standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maintain radio contact with the Front Desk/Night Auditor at all times.
  • Use proper two-way radio etiquette at all times when communicating with other hotel associates.
  • Maintain visual contact with the Front Desk/Night Auditor and the front door of the hotel by remaining in the Lobby area when not on property walks.
  • Maintain and review daily activity log.
  • Maintain confidentiality with respect to guest and hotel associate incidents.
  • Hold briefing with Front Office staff both at the beginning and end of shift.
  • Open secured areas for authorized personnel.
  • Maintain an awareness of legal limitations of position (i.e., local ordinances, state ordinances, etc.).
  • Check lights and door locks. Investigate auto accidents/theft.
  • Respond to complaints.
  • Assist guests to their rooms or help guests enter their rooms of course and always verifying identification to ensure individuals seeking access to a specified guestroom is, in fact, the registered hotel guest of record.
  • Conduct room theft investigations.
  • Provide escort when requested and appropriate.
  • Assist with intoxicated guests.
  • Respond to security alarms.
  • Be knowledgeable about hotel and guestroom locking systems.
  • Challenge suspicious persons.
  • Check safety hazards. Make rounds.
  • Administer First Aid/C.P.R as necessary.
  • Complete Incident/Accident Reports in a clear and concise manner.

Marginal:

  • Deliver requested items to guest rooms.
  • Make wake-up calls.
  • Pick up items left on property (during rounds).
  • Assist with van runs as requested.
  • Handle items for “Lost and Found” according to the standards.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Other reasonable duties as required and or requested by co-workers and management.

NOTICE:

The hospitality business functions seven (7) days a week, twenty-four hours a day. In addition, this is a hospitality business and a hospitable service atmosphere must be projected at all times. Upon employment, all associates are required to fully comply with JL Hospitality Management rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of facilities. Associates who violate the rules and regulations will be subjected to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
