Position Title: Human Resources Generalist

Department / Business Unit: Corporate Affairs / Human Resources

Reports To: Manager of Human Resources

Summary:

Under limited supervision, provides expert delivery of support for the Human Resources department including performing compensation and benefits responsibilities, talent acquisition and talent management, and HRIS management. Assists in the implementation and interpretation of human resource policies and procedures and their dissemination through employee booklets, communications, and/or meetings. Provides a high emphasis on internal customer service. This is a 6-month contract position, and the pay is $28 per hour.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Compensation & Benefits:

1. Supports the HR Manager with compensation administration activities, including merit and incentive planning. Conduct salary analysis for offers and promotions to support decision-making.

2. Maintain and interpret fringe benefits such as sick leave, short-term disability, vacation, and holidays; manage leave of absences; and swiftly respond to employee payroll and benefit related questions.

3. Maintain and interpret all benefits and insurances such as health, life, dental, vision, FSA, AD&D, LTD, COBRA, Workers Compensation, unemployment, FMLA, 403(b) and pension plan. Pension Administration

4. Supports the HR Manager with administration of the company's pension plan by performing the following tasks: consulting with retirees or eligible retirees on pension plan provisions and payment elections; review data and compile and scrub data and information to maintain accuracy; understand data impact on pension calculations; respond to retiree calls and facilitate requests or inquiries; run salary report and requests calculations from 3rd party actuary; proactively reach out to newly eligible retirees and conduct search on locating for initiating benefits; conduct data entry of newly eligible participants and make ongoing updates in HRIS; process monthly pension disbursements and retiree premium reimbursements via HRIS; prepare retiree communication materials for engaging retirees and managing annual renewal updates of premium reimbursements; and maintain adequate knowledge of plan provisions.

Talent Acquisition & Talent Management:

5. Performs strategic recruiting activities to include managing job postings, applicants, and conducting phone screens to short list candidates for hiring managers. Completes recruitment intake forms with hiring managers for each open position and confirms that job descriptions are accurate for recruiting purposes. Coordinate and participate in employment interviews. Coordinate assessments as required. Coordinate and lead debrief sessions to assist hiring managers in the selection process. Outsource staffing to third party recruiting firms as necessary, assuring costs are in line with budget limits. Manage relocation in accordance with policy for eligible candidates.

6. Responsible for working with the HR Manager to create, maintain and facilitate an effective university recruitment and co-op placement program, partnering with university career placement offices to ensure company policy and labor compliance are met. Plan and participate in university career fairs. Coordinate onboarding of co-ops and engage in regular touch points with co-op and supervisor to assure program guidelines and objectives are met.

7. Partners with the HR Manager to create bench strength to ensure managers and leaders have the skills to execute and ensure business continuity and ensure critical roles can be filled quickly and effectively for succession purposes. Coordinates and conducts training to support employee and manager development.

8. Responsible for performing onboarding and orientation duties to include preparing and processing E[1]Verify, Form I9, and other new hire documents.

9. Participate in employee meetings in the absence of the HR Manager as well as provide backup to the HR Manager in other duties as assigned.

10. Applies and interprets organization policy as needed. Recommends changes in methods and procedures.

11. Answer third party inquiries such as unemployment claims and employment verification requests as needed.

12. Responsible for updating and maintaining the HR sections of the Intranet, HRIS portal, and bulletin boards.

13. Assist the HR Manager with employee relations and investigative matters and activities as needed.

14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Generally requires a bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field with at least 5 years of demonstrated related experience. A combination of education and related experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
• Working knowledge of HRIS platform.
• Intermediate skills in MS Office software with emphasis on Excel.
• Must have knowledge of general HR functions and employment related laws.
• PHR/SPHR certification is a plus.
