Full-Time Residential Services Peer Support Specialist

Hiring Range: $20.07 - $24.58 Per Hour

Kitsap Mental Health Services is looking for a Residential Services Peer Support Specialist. This position will allow you to use your personal experience as a recipient of mental health services to empower both our team and our clients. Primary Responsibilities:
  • Validate clients' experiences and provide guidance and encouragement for their recovery journey, promoting hope and empowerment.
  • Provide individualized direct support to clients, respecting their choices and building confidence through coaching, guidance, and support.
  • Assist clients in understanding the components of recovery and resilience, applying skills to achieve life goals outlined in the recovery care plan.
  • Participate in clinical activities as directed by a supervisor, including facilitating group activities, conducting ongoing client observation and assessment, and following behavioral protocols.
  • Complete all paperwork related to providing direct client care, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Participate in shift pass downs to ensure continuity of care 24/7.
  • Act as an interpreter for the team, providing expertise and consultation from a client perspective on symptoms, medication effects, treatment opinions, and recovery experiences.
  • Combat stigma and discrimination, increasing awareness among clients and staff.
  • Collaborate with clients on awareness of their rights and support them in filing, mediating, and resolving complaints.
  • Increase awareness of self-help and consumer advocacy groups promoting recovery, acting as a liaison between the team and such groups.
  • Provide ongoing assessment and direct services to clients, addressing challenges such as suicidality and substance abuse education and treatment.
  • Assist clients in planning and participating in social and leisure activities.
  • Provide feedback on consumer progress to the treatment team, ensuring timely completion of clinical notes.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while seeking clinical supervision where necessary.
  • Attend orientations, staff meetings, and maintain up-to-date mandatory trainings as required.


Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: Entry level (no prior related work experience)

This position requires driving clients in a personal vehicle on behalf of the agency; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in the state of Washington, and have reliable, insured transportation.

Valid WA State Food Worker Card (Can Be Obtained Post-Hire)

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration. Completion of the Washington State Mental Health Division's Peer Counselor Training and the subsequent certification as a Peer Counselor within six months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.

Capacity to work well with children and families.
