Salary: $73,000-$83,000/yr. DOE

Vital Research partners with local and state governments, non-profits, foundations, corporations, and others to evaluate the implementation and impact of social programs. We are currently recruiting for a Research Associate II to manage and assist in the coordination and implementation of research and evaluation projects across several focus areas, including aging & disabilities, community services, education, and health. Responsibilities include drafting of materials and protocols, participating in multi-site data collection activities, entering data, providing field support, report writing, and other project tasks and activities.


For this position, candidates must have experience leading the design and implementation of mixed methods evaluation studies across different content areas. Candidates should have experience in data collection instrument development, conducting surveys, interviews and focus groups, and in leading quantitative and qualitative data analysis and reporting.


As a Research Associate, RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Leads large - and small-scale research and evaluation projects that involve complex planning, coordination, presentation delivery, and resource requirements. 
  • Oversees multi-site data collection activities across a range of methods. 
  • Designs and implements data collection protocols including survey interview focus group and observation protocols including quality assurance measures to ensure data integrity.
  • Adapts procedures or methods relative to changes in evaluation projects.
  • Analyzes quantitative and qualitative data ensuring the accuracy and integrity of findings.
  • Summarizes completed studies; writes external facing briefs, articles, blog posts, and manuscripts for publication and presentations.
  • Communicates with clients to identify needs, answer technical questions about the data and reports, and provides consultation as needed.
  • Prepares research and evaluation reports that incorporate state-of-the-art data visualizations for clients and other external audiences.
  • Participates in professional development to further develop research skill.
  • Maintains strong positive relationships with project partners to support collaborative research, including presenting and participating in project meetings and work groups to support project activities.
  • Stays current with methodological advancements ranging from new data collection techniques to different types of software used for the analysis collection and visual visualization of data
  • Conducts literature reviews


This opportunity might be for you if you meet the following REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree or Ph. D. in social science (e.g., education, gerontology, public health, sociology, psychology, etc.).
  • 4+ years related experience in the research and/or evaluation field; mixed methods experience is a MUST.
  • Understanding of fundamental research and evaluation principles, field concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Proven leadership skills and exceptional track record in client management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Ability to thrive in a remote work environment, work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
  • Solid working knowledge of relevant software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Two years of supervisory experience overseeing a team of two or more highly desired.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
