PART-TIME LOCAL MUSIC SHOW HOST / WEEKEND FILL-IN HOST, KXT 91.7 FM

KXT 91.7 FM, sister station to KERA, the public broadcasting organization for Dallas/Fort Worth, is looking for a Part-Time Local Show host / Weekend Fill-In Host.

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:
KERA is seeking a Part-Time Local Music Show Host and Weekend & Fill-In Host to join our team. Reporting to the KXT Program Director, the Part-Time Host will have an extensive knowledge of the artists and music played on KXT helping to strengthen the musical identity of the station. The Part-Time Host’s main responsibilities will include hosting the Local Music Show, weekend air shifts and filling in for various shifts as needed.

This position is classified as FLSA non-exempt, and hours will not exceed 15 hours per week on average.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Hosts live and voice-tracked programming for a variety of weekend shifts
• Listen and asses all music submissions from local artists
• Respond to all artists submitting work, acknowledging submissions have been received.
• Work with programming staff, suggesting artists for regular features such as Local Bites at Noon, and The KXT Local Music Show.
• Make the programming department aware of opportunities within the local music community such as showcases, and events that would be a good fit for KXT.
• Fills in on an as-needed basis during the week
• Participates in KXT on-air fund drives
• Creates and posts music and programming-related for the KXT website and social media platforms
• Attend and assist with in-person engagement opportunities as needed and requested
• Upholds and advances KERA’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in all facets of KERA and KXT’s work
• Work in a manner that is consistent with KERA’s mission, vision and values; and maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• 2 years’ work experience in radio or broadcasting; with experience in media, music or related areas
• You are passionate about the North Texas music scene. Familiar with bands, venues and trends that are developing and have strong connections with all of them.
• Working knowledge of FCC rules and requirements
• Proven advanced skills in radio production with experience using digital, control room and studio technology along with editing and content management systems such as ENCO and Adobe Audition
• A deep knowledge of music and artists that fit the noncommercial public radio Triple A format and helps build a significant and loyal audience
• Innovative, creative, an accountable problem-solver and team player
• Oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite
• Experience with WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube
• Valid driver’s license and insurance are required for assignments/activities that may involve work outside the office and/or operating the company vehicle

BONUS IF YOU BRING:

• Passion for and experience with the public broadcasting system and on-air TV or radio experience
• Experience with recording, editing and mixing of live performances

SALARY RANGE
$20-25/hour, depending on experience.

LOCATION:
KERA is primarily operating remotely due to the pandemic. However, given the nature of this position, it will work out of our Dallas office at least 85% of the time.
