Position Purpose
An ARLCS Math Specialist serves as a support position for both teachers and scholars in regards to mathematics curriculum. The Mathematics Specialist position fulfills three roles: Consultant, Coach and Facilitator. As a Consultant, the specialist will assist the district with options for targeted instruction and additional intervention strategies. As a Coach the specialist works with districts and teachers to identify areas of professional need and provides resources and strategies to address these. They will provide model lessons and assist with planning lessons and units. Specialists will assist with securing materials, resources, and data. As a Facilitator, the specialist will provide professional development for teachers and administrators which address curriculum, teaching strategies, trends, and data analysis.

Essential Functions
• Deeply knowledgeable in Math and up to date on all professional trends in the instruction of math
• Constantly seeks out new resources
• Assists teachers in building their mathematical and pedagogical knowledge
• Focuses conversations with teachers on how scholars learn mathematics
• Assists with the evaluation of math programs and provides recommendations on curriculum, materials and instructional pedagogy
• Customizes math professional development based on district needs and goals
• Assists in the evaluation of mathematics data utilizing the data support staff within our district
• Offers technology resources to support the teaching and learning of mathematics
• Performs other specific job-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating curriculum
  • Ensuring that scholars are meeting their full potential, especially when they are in need of advanced or remedial instruction
  • Be deeply knowledgeable in math and up to date with all professional trends
  • Demonstrate mastery of district programs and work actively to continually shape programmatic elements
  • Constantly seeks new resources to enrich teacher/district team's performance
  • Assist all teachers in implementing math programs and utilizing instructional strategies effectively
  • Work collaboratively with all teachers to facilitate seamless delivery of program services to all learners
  • Cultivate a culture of professional inquiry where teachers are self-motivated to improve
  • Collaborate effectively with staff, sharing expert content and instructional knowledge and resources while demonstrating creativity, flexibility, and responsiveness
  • Gather and use data to analyze student, grade level, and building-level building performance, as well as use technology to prepare reports and presentations
  • Consult with building administrators on a regular basis regarding the consistency of program implementation by grade level.
  • Continually assume leadership roles within the school community, coordinating projects and reports, and making meaningful contributions at all levels
  • Represent the District team in a positive, honest way; interacting with all colleagues, parents and scholars with respect and integrity.
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned by the Principal


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon scholar learning styles.
  • Knowledge of math education curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and schools.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed..
  • Ability to communicate effectively with scholars and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Certification/License:
  • Teacher Certification (preferred)

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Math Education or related field (required)

Experience:
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

Schedule
7:15 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. M - F
