Children’s Theatre of Charlotte is driven in the belief that there is power behind simple acts of kindness. Throughout our work, staff, patrons, and community, we strive to spread kindness wherever we can and to encourage children to act kindly toward others. CTC has grown to become a national leader in Theatre for Young Audiences. CTC is a national leader in Theatre for Young Audiences and is recognized for the breadth and strength of its programs. We are dedicated to creating vibrant and engaging theatre experiences, both on the stage and in the classroom. Our typical season consists of large book musicals, as well as more intimate productions. Generally, we produce 7 - 9 mainstage shows, 2 elementary school tours, and 1 - 2 preschool tours annually. While we are a professional theatre creating shows for children, not by children, and will generally cast student actors in one or two shows throughout the season. Our production season runs from September to June.


What You will Do…


As the Head Electrician, you will be a key member of a highly trained, committed, and talented production and artistic team. In this role, you are responsible for leading an electrics team to implement and maintain the lighting designer’s and director’s artistic vision. In this position you will specifically:

  • Support the Mission Statement and Core Values of Children’s Theatre of Charlotte.
  • Serve as a key leader on our Production Team, working in close collaboration to coordinate technical needs.
  • Staff, schedule and lead all hang and focus calls in two performance spaces.
  • Analyze the feasibility of lighting designs within an established budget, physical and electrical limitations of the McColl Theatre and Wells Fargo Playhouse
  • Oversee planning and executing all aspects of electrics for our productions, including maintaining the integrity of the lighting design throughout the performance period. This includes programming and operating consoles for theatre spaces.
  • Work with the Lighting Designer both prior to and during Tech to ensure the Designer's vision is realized within the parameters of budget, labor and time.
  • Supervise electricians or lighting technicians through the installation of power distribution, cabling, data systems, and lighting instruments.
  • Support the Education Department’s programming as required.
  • Organize, repair, and maintain electrics inventory.
  • Collaborate with the Production Manager to develop season’s budgets and track expenses, and coordinate with other departments on crossover production elements.
  • Coordinate lighting needs for library/outside events.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access throughout the organization with policies and practices that foster transformative change.
Requirements:

We Would Love to Hear From You If...

  • You are an experienced, organized, detail-oriented, and strong leader/supervisor, with solid electrician skills and abilities.
  • You have some experience in scheduling and managing hang, circuiting, and focus calls.
  • You are enthusiastic, goal driven, unflappable under pressure, and can strike a balance between juggling all the details and executing them successfully. You thrive when troubleshooting and engaging in creative thinking to overcome challenges.
  • You are an active listener, able to receive and deliver constructive criticism.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment that, at times, requires long hours and irregular schedules.
  • You have working knowledge of rigging and use of fly systems, ETC consoles, and QLab software.
  • You are excited to lead through a lens of equity, cultural awareness, and sensitivity.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: You have at least 3 years of professional experience as a lead, or assistant to the lead electrician, plus a degree in theatre, OR at least 5 years’ experience as a lead or assistant to the lead electrician.


SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: Directly supervises the full time, seasonal assistant electrician and overhire electricians.


SALARY & BENEFITS: This is a regular, full time, year-round exempt position with a salary of $42,000 to $44,000. Design opportunities possible with supplemental pay. Benefits package that includes paid time off; medical, dental, and vision insurance, disability, life, 403(b) retirement plan, reduced class/summer camp fees and free show tickets. Night and weekend hours are required.
