Job Description
*Position is in the office and not remote work.

JOB SUMMARY: This is a full-time exempt position that involves advanced specialized work maintaining databases for the preparation and certification of a county wide real and personal property assessment roll. The work performed requires minimum supervision and is reviewed by the Director of Information Technology through direct interaction, conferences and performance evaluations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employees may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.)

  • Design, implement, and maintain Oracle/MS SQL databases.
  • Complete PL/SQL, SQL and other shell scripting.
  • Identify and troubleshoot performance issues.
  • Monitor major data movement processes.
  • Ensure information security.
  • Back up information for data recovery.
  • Train non-technical employees on how to access the database.
  • Provide database support to employees as needed.
  • Consults with programmers when writing and tuning SQL.
  • Co-manages support of Public Access system with outside web team.
  • Provides technical knowledge and/or support to users.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops reports and custom requests for users.

  • Writes programs or runs PL/SQL or SQL scripts to correct data errors as needed by Managers of various departments.
  • Works with Help Desk support to resolve database access and related issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (The qualifications listed below are intended to represent the minimum skills and experience levels associated with performing the duties and responsibilities contained in this job description.   • Thorough knowledge of the Oracle/MS SQL database and tool set for database maintenance and development.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows operating system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with technical and non-technical staff.
  • Ability to work independently, utilize problem-solving techniques, plan organize and coordinate work assignments and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Analytical skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the direction of the industry and rapidly changing technology as it relates to the specific areas of assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to operate modern standard office equipment including, but not limited to telephone, computer, calculator, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, tablet, thin client.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from high school or recognized equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in MIS, computer science or business with a concentration in MIS or computer science, or the equivalent of practical work experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience with Oracle databases and technical training supplemented by related course work.
  • Certification in Oracle desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (This job requires the ability to perform the essential functions contained in this job description. These include, but are not limited to, the following requirements)

  • Typically sit at a cubicle, desk, table or counter.
  • Use fingers and hands to operate computer keyboard; enter data into a computer or other keyboard device requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand-eye movement.
  • Occasionally walk, stand, stoop or kneel.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally ascend or descend stairs.
  • Work for sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail.
  • Ability to file and retrieve documents from department files.
  • Pass a physical examination.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is regularly performed in an environmentally controlled office setting.
