Job Description

AXENS is a major licensor of technologies and a leading supplier of products and equipment for the Refining, Petrochemicals, Renewable Fuels, and Sustainable Plastics and Green Energy industries. The Senior Technology Engineer reports to the Senior Technology Manager for Hydroprocessing and Renewables. This team belongs to the Technology & New Business Group which is responsible for the technical support to business across the whole portfolio of technologies, products and equipment of Axens North America.

JOB SUMMARY
  • The individual will be a key contributor to the technical activities of Axens Renewables Technology & Technical Service (T&TS) team for Axens Americas Regional Operating Center (ROC), and therefore will:
    • Report to the Senior Technology Manager for Renewables, supporting Axens lipids (fats, oils and greases) hydroprocessing Vegan® technology with geographic limitation to the ROC Americas;
    • Lead development of technical proposals and catalyst projections for Axens Vegan® technology supporting Axens Americas ROC Commercial team while positively promoting Vegan® technology in public settings;
    • Support Axens Renewables T&TS team by providing after sales services including unit monitoring and field support; and
    • Comply with Axens quality system requirements.
  • As a team member of the Axens Renewables T&TS team, this individual will perform the following tasks:
    1. Collaborate with technology counterparts within Axens, including other Axens Americas ROC Technology Engineers, to ensure technology tools and processes in Americas ROC represent the latest and most updated versions available;
    2. Support the development and ongoing updates of Axens internal standards and processes, actively participating in internal team metrics including Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and other ISO requirements;
    3. Lead technical proposal and catalyst projection generation supporting development of commercial proposals led by Axens Americas ROC Commercial team;
    4. Actively participate in Renewables Field Support team to safely and successfully commission new units and catalyst loads by supporting review of equipment readiness, operator training, unit inspections, catalyst loading, catalyst activation, commissioning, and start-up assistance for new and existing lipids hydroprocessing units having Axens catalyst;
    5. Monitor and analyze the performance of current operating units of responsibility in the area of lipids hydroprocessing, including issuing unit monitoring reports, ongoing communication with unit engineers, and site visits, as needed, in a timely and accurate manner;
    6. Provide internal training in the area of lipids hydroprocessing to Axens Americas ROC team members from all business units, as needed;
    7. Assist and support Axens Renewables technologies beyond those of primary responsibility, as needed;
    8. Domestic and international travel up to 40% of time to support field jobs, promote technologies and engage on various commercial unit activities;
    9. Promote Axens technology with external parties to present technical advantages in various meeting formats, from large industry conferences to smaller one-on-one settings.
EDUCATION
  • BS, MS, or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or relevant discipline required.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Three plus (3+) years of experience in the petrochemical and/or refining industry with demonstrated experience with lipid hydroprocessing required;
  • Three plus (3+) years of design experience with hydroprocessing of fats, oils, and greases (lipids) preferred.
TECHNICAL & BEHAVIORAL REQUIREMENTS

Technical Qualifications and Skills:

  • Field experience required; experience in commissioning/startup/shutdown activities and ongoing operational support for lipid hydroprocessing units preferred.
  • Expertise in chemical engineering fundamentals including reaction engineering, catalyst, and general chemistry required;
  • Experience with PRO/II simulation software and Excel-based modelling tools preferred;
  • Experience in basic process design, project engineering, and economics preferred;
  • Willingness to travel domestically or internationally up to 40% of time; and
  • Experience giving technical presentations to large audiences with strong technical expertise preferred.
