Job Title:Field Ecologist (DRUM)

Location(s):Grand Junction, CO

Status: Full-Time

FLSA: Exempt

Hiring Range: The anticipated starting salary pay range of $50,000 - $64,000/year with a bachelor's degree. The offered salary may be more depending upon additional education, training, and experience of the selected applicant.

RSI EnTech, LLC is recruiting for an Ecologist who will support the field teams in collecting ecological and environmental data at abandoned uranium mines in remote, rugged country throughout United States, as part of the Defense Related Uranium Mines (DRUM) program. This position is based out of Grand Junction, CO.

This position is required to travel and work in the field 50% -75% of the time.

Primary responsibilities and essential functions:
  • Collecting ecological and environmental data at abandoned uranium mines.
  • Conduct work according to approved work plan, ensuring procedures are followed.
  • Assist in evaluating data, reviewing reports, and writing report sections.
  • Work with office personnel in planning field activities.
  • Assists in data collection activities such as collecting coordinates of mine features with GPS, soil sampling, and occasionally water sampling.
  • Other duties as assigned


Work experience, skills, and capabilities needed:
  • Working knowledge of collecting and analyzing environmental data and mine land reclamation.
  • Field experience in plant identification
  • Field experience in summer field camp, sensitive species surveys, environmental, or mine land reclamation.
  • Strong working knowledge of collecting and analyzing environmental data and mine land reclamation.
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to organize own work independently to meet established objectives, using discretion in performing duties


Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiency required:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ArcGIS
  • Valid driver's license.


Desirable qualifications, experience, or proficiencies of the ideal candidate:
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS and QGIS.


Required Education and Years of Experience:

Bachelor's degree in physical sciences or related field.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Able to travel on uneven ground for multiple miles per day, potentially under adverse weather conditions. Occasional hikes could be all day. Much of the traveling is up and down hills. Able to work in hot, cold, windy, and sometimes wet conditions.

Ability to hike on mountainous terrain on extremely uneven ground at up to 13,000 feet and slopes up to 45 degrees. Ability to hike on average 10 to 20 miles per day carrying up to 50 pounds.

The employee is regularly required to handle or feel objects, to reach, and to communicate with multiple parties. The employee is frequently required to move about and maintain various positions. The employee must have the ability to perceive the environment and observe technical material and emails.
