Field Engineer Reports To: Superintendent

Job Overview: Field engineers manage construction projects to make sure they run smoothly, safely, and effectively. They have a wide range of job responsibilities. Field Engineers monitor activities at construction sites. They work to ensure construction progresses as scheduled and contract specifications are adhered to.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Attend job-specific meetings
  • PIT, Whiteboard, Bullet proof walks, any other pertinent job walks or deemed necessary by Superintendent
  • Gather information obtained and report to Superintendent
  • Review Shop and Erection drawings with Project Engineer and ensure field use drawings are current. ONLY the current set of documents should be in the field; ensure old sets are brought back to the office or disposed of.
  • Monitor job progress in the field, could be self performed or subcontracted work;
  • Report progress to the Superintendent
  • QC work in the field (prior to official inspection) - refer to QC testing procedures.
  • Bolts, Welds, Installation (installed per design), Layout, etc.
  • Deliveries
  • Know when deliveries are coming, coordinate with Project Engineer
  • Be on site when deliveries arrive, verify material with BOL; coordinate with General Foreman
  • Report back to Project Engineer and Superintendent with any issues (accuracy, damage, completeness, etc.) with material deliveries received
  • Inspections
  • Schedule Inspections (Bolts, Epoxy, Welds, Lot Tests, etc.)
  • Attend Inspections and answer questions inspectors may have. Make sure to bring a set of IFC drawings, complete with any updates and/or approved RFIs.
  • Ensure inspections are completed and that paperwork is handed off to the Project Engineer for record keeping
  • Initiate field related RFIs and/or support field gathering of information for an RFI to support Project Engineer for submittal
  • Prepare, submit, and track project specific field documents; varies by jobsite and client. Ensure current version of the form is being used, and ensure the correct/approved form is being used in the field.
  • Report to the PE/project team that an NCR (Non-conformance report) issue has been identified in the field, with photos if required
  • Coordinate as-builts with General Foreman; provide documentation to Superintendent and/or requesting party
  • Conduct/facilitate concrete scanning
  • Conduct and/or verify field survey is completed, review and document results
  • Help prepare and review crane plans, erection plans, and logistics plans, if needed; assist the Superintendent and work with Safety. Ensure field utilizes final approved plans.
  • Use computer programs such as Navisworks, Trimble, Bluebeam, Vista, Microsoft Office Products, Tekla, etc.
  • Be a team player and support the project team; we wear many hats and do whatever is needed to ensure the project success!

Physical Demands:
A Field Engineer is anticipated to spend much of their day in the field, or as the project requires. Able to stand and walk for long periods of time outdoors in varying weather conditions. Occasionally required to utilize fall protection harness and work from heights. Must lift 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds on occasion.
