Job Description

The Diagnostic Technician is a member of the Electrical Department and is responsible for testing finished products for quality and operation. Technician work teams are responsible for keeping production flowing, for meeting performance goals and for maintaining the high level of quality that consumers expect from our products. This is a “safety sensitive” position; therefore, the employee must adhere to all OSHA and Standard Operating Procedures that have been put into place.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Able to diagnose and repair OEM/VMI functions and parts
  • Completes major repairs efficiently, safely and correct, to pass quality inspections set forth by VMI’s quality standards, to include:
  • Replace front A/C casing
  • Replace engine harness
  • Reconstruct and assemble the front dash
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools following appropriate methods and procedures to complete required tasks including, but not limited to, terminal extraction tools, digital multi-meter, piercing probes, OEM dealer software and schematics
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, and maintain all equipment according to established guidelines and quality standards
  • Cross train in other areas of department as needed
  • Maintains regular attendance and excellent punctuality
  • Read, learn, understand and interpret work instructions, written or verbal, to complete labor intensive tasks to the materials according to established guidelines and quality standards
  • All other duties assigned

SAFETY

  • Diagnostic Technicians will conduct all business in accordance with company policies and procedures, and all state and federal regulations (such as 6S, Lean Manufacturing, OSHA, etc.). Bring problems to the attention of the Lead, Operations Director, Safety Director or HR Director.

· Ensures all workplace safety standards and practices are upheld

  • Diagnostic Technicians must adhere to PPE requirements at all times

ENVIRONMENT:

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts. The employee is also exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

· Basic automotive experience that includes assembly/disassembly of interior to allow electrical troubleshooting.

· Electrical troubleshooting skills including use of a multimeter.

· Ability to read and understand automotive electrical schematics.

· Experience with CAN (controller area network) systems.

· Familiarity with one or more of the following OEM software troubleshooting platforms; DealerConnect, TIS, Honda interactive network.

· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

· Ability to read, learn and understand instructions, both written and verbal, in English

· Ability to read and understand schematics

· Knowledgeable in electrical theories

· Must know proper use of hand and power tools

· Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Previous experience in automotive manufacturing, assembly, or other related fields required; knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Lean Six Sigma certification preferred
  • ASE Certification and/or Pre-Delivery Inspector experience a plus
  • Must be available to work overtime and/or weekends based on business needs
  • Must possess ability to work and cope well under pressure in fast paced environment and within production cycle times
  • Must be quality and detail-oriented, and have great organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and be flexible to change
  • Honest, ethical and handles things in a professional manner
