Retail Credit Analyst Role:

The successful candidate will be a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field, with a strong concentration or minor in computer science. They will be a mature self-starter with an exceptional capability to break down and communicate complex technical concepts to a non-specialist audience, and will join a team of credit professionals responsible for a portfolio of retail energy customers across North America. They will be a key contributor to the development of best-in-class risk management tools for NRG’s retail credit team.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work with Retail Credit Risk management, IT developers, project managers, and other stakeholders as appropriate, to develop comprehensive data sources and reporting for customer-specific and portfolio-wide credit risk and exposure profiles, default estimation, transaction analysis, concentration risk, and related credit metrics such as potential future exposure, expected exposure, loss given default, etc.. Their immediate tasks would include supporting and/or performing independently:

  • System stack review: Quickly develop a working understanding of retail credit risk decision-making and reporting at NRG through a complex system stack, including mapping of existing data flows, decision points, and identification of process gaps / weaknesses, manual steps, duplicative work,
  • Development of immediate-need reporting tools from current data sources.
  • Development of a comprehensive retail credit risk data warehouse, an effort which may include but not be limited to:
    • Facilitation of writing use cases, in collaboration with Retail Credit Risk and senior management personnel, to identify and prioritize the key information and reporting needs of the Retail Credit Risk team.
    • Identifying the sources of data required to meet those needs.
    • Standardizing / mapping the data elements obtained from multiple sources to common nomenclature, units of measure, and data hierarchies.
    • Supporting the design, building, and testing of data warehouse flows and functionality.
    • Supporting the design, building, and testing of related reporting.

In addition to the above immediate and primary projects, the successful candidate may be engaged in other project work within the Credit Risk team, deployed as a Retail Credit Analyst to learn, support, and improve the credit adjudication and monitoring process, or take on other roles as agreed by the candidate and their management.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • University undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, with a strong concentration / minor in computer science.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and tenacious, able to work independently and collaboratively with other team members and departments to understand a highly fragmented and complex data environment across multiple platforms
  • Strong data querying, data management and presentation skills. SQL, PowerBI/Tableau or similar data aggregation and presentation tools, MS Excel / VBA.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic understanding of financial statements, credit risk metrics, and derivative securities
  • Familiarity with energy commodity sales / trading and risk management concepts Accounting designation or CFA
