Patent Attorney Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable Patent Attorney to join our firm. This role will be responsible for developing and creating patent applications for new inventions. Patent Attorney Duties and Responsibilities
Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Conduct legal research to identify potentially relevant prior art that could influence the patentability of an invention
Analyze patent search reports and apply relevant intellectual property (IP) laws to determine patentability of inventions and validity of issued patents
Correspond with inventors, outside counsel, and patent examiners on substantive or procedural matters in the prosecution of patent applications
Collaborate with colleagues in the practice to develop and assess global strategies for the acquisition and enforcement of client's patent rights
Interpret legal judgments and patent office decisions and advise clients on potential risks and benefits associated with potential filing strategies
Monitor, interpret, and advise on changes in IP laws and advise clients on potential changes in applicable laws
Patent Attorney Requirements and Qualifications
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
Registration to practice in the USPTO
3+ years of relevant experience
An in-depth understanding of patent law and US patent office practices and procedures
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Able to effectively interpret complex statutory language and legal precedents
Proficient in using various databases and legal research tools
Able to work independently and in a team environment
Demonstrated project management and organizational skills
