Ekg Technician Job Summary

Our healthcare organization is currently seeking an EKG Technician. In this role, you will perform a variety of diagnostic tests, including electrocardiograms, cardiac stress tests, arrhythmia testing, and Doppler ultrasounds. You should be able to interpret tests and point out when results are abnormal, prepare the tracings for the cardiologist, and input the edits they suggest. You will also apply cardiac monitoring devices, primarily Holter monitors. Applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency with EKG equipment and related computer systems.

Ekg Technician Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up cardiac monitoring devices, such as Holter monitors (or Zio Patches)
  • Perform diagnostic tests, including electrocardiograms, cardiac stress tests, arrhythmia testing, and doppler ultrasounds
  • Prepare patients for the procedure by transporting them to the room, confirming their medical history, taking their vitals, and explaining the procedure
  • Prepare the tracings for the cardiologist and input their edits
  • Monitor patient discomfort during the procedure
  • Clean equipment and stock supplies

Ekg Technician Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Completion of an EKG certification program (or on-the-job training program)
  • Completion of a basic arrhythmia recognition course
  • CCT credential a plus
  • BLS certification (within three months of hire)
  • Experience in healthcare (1 year preferred)
  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology
