What is a HERS rater?

A HERs rater completes compliance testing for new construction projects and explains inefficiencies to project managers and job superintendents so that they can improve their processes. Your responsibilities in this career include testing airflow, refrigerant charge, and duct blast. This job requires traveling to job sites, but you also work in an office, writing up reports for each inspection. Most employers prefer a high school diploma and HERs Certificate, as well as experience in HVAC installation, Green Building Programs, energy codes, or construction. Being self-motivated and detail-oriented is essential, and strong communication skills are required to explain and enforce codes to superintendents and other workers.
